2/06/21

Body5-10, 158-pounds. Narrow frame, lean strength, and light muscular build.
Hit: RHH. Narrow squatted stance, even hands having hands work very deep in load. Stays on the backside through swing after front foot lift. Hips work well and propel the upper half. Upward path with hands turning barrel through the zone. Keeps his body in good sequence allowing him to rotate and have handspeed occur out front. When timing was on ball carried to the pullside gap; times where hands got steep leading to more groundballs.
Power94.00 mph exit velocity.
Arm: RH. OF - 85 mph. Long, deep arm with accurate throws to all the bases. Limited life on balls
Defense: Very deliberate approach to the ball; kept feet moving and showed good footwork moving through the baseball. Glove worked easily with the lead foot.
Run6.95 runner in the 60.

7/27/19

Uncommitted. Long, strong, athletic build at 5-foot-10, 160-pounds with plenty of room to add more. Playing center-field Lanier’s athleticism and instincts take shine when he’s charging or going after balls in the gaps. Longer strides in the outfield eat up ground while the arm strength works for now and is easy to dream on getting stronger. At the plate there some controlled violence in the swing; he looks to do damage. Seemingly always makes hard, loud contact.

1/05/19

SoCal Preseason All-State - 5-foot-10, 158-pounds, medium athletic frame, with projection remaining in his frame. Hits from the right side with a nice smooth compact swing. Generated some of the most impressive bat speed at the showcase. Has quick hands, and has the ability to turn on pitches. Drove the ball very well, and showed off some power. Behind the plate, he has many raw skills. He was quick on his feet, with pop times between 2.22-2.31. Had some troubles with exchanges but with his athleticism, this should improve. Very strong arm but was not very accurate, needs to improve this tool to stay behind the dish. Also ran a 7.67 60 yard dash. Also an outfielder although he didn't work out there at this event. Lanier has many raw tools that could to turn into average or above tools; very exciting talented young player.

9/23/18

Rising Stars Showcase - Five-foot-9, 155-pounds, medium frame with strength throughout, particularly in the lower half. Squared shoulders with strength down into the wrists. Behind the plate Lanier shows a quiet setup with a excellent footwork. Has a tendency to stab at the ball when receiving with soft hands. Exchanges are clean and quick. Arm strength is present while accuracy is developing. Very athletic movement out of crouch where he gains ground towards the target with excellent footwork. At the plate he shows present bat speed with feel and control of the barrel with a middle approach and some present pull side power. In the outfield Lanier shows an above average arm with accuracy with carry on the throws. Footwork is excellent and he shows an understanding of angles and more than enough speed/athleticism to get to the ball at the right spot. That footwork and understanding of angles carries over to his play in the infield where his arm plays way up. Shows very good range to both sides with soft hands and fast/clean exchanges.

6/01/18

Lanier opened eyes with his ability to handle himself in the moment. At 5-foot-9, 145-pounds he was much smaller than most catchers at the event but the rising freshman more than handled his own, in fact, he was one of the best defensive catchers there. We clocked his pop time at 2.13 during the defensive portion of the workout but his arm plays way up in game due to his athleticism behind the plate. Lanier moves well and receives with quiet hands. His transitions are clean and his ability to shift his body and getting into throwing position is excellent. Needs to add strength for his soft bloopers to turn into liners, but he shows good feel for the barrel through the hitting zone. Ran a 7.4 60 yards.
