ROSEVILLE, CA - Anticipation and expectations for this loaded event were quickly validated with impressive TrackMan and Blast Motion metrics. Many players saw their metrics make improvements while newcomers discovered them for the first time and the value that they hold. However, the annual Preseason All-State event isn't complete without a detailed scouting report from the Prep Baseball Report scouting staff. In this addition we dive into Upperclass Outfielders.

Joshua Algarin, The King's Academy, 2021
Body: 5-9, 160-pounds. Strong, athletic build with some current strength. Space to keep growing
Hit: LHH. Balanced setup with hands at back shoulder lowering a bit as he loaded them back with small foot lift. Keeps good posture and balance throughout swing. Barrel stays behind baseball well with ability to work inner half of the baseball and the strength to carry gap-to-gap. Sequences the body well allowing handspeed to occur out front. 27.6 gs Max Rotational Acceleration, 76.7 Max Batspeed, 68% On Plane Efficiency
Power: 91.60 mph exit velocity.
Arm: LH. OF - 85 mph. Compact Arm, fluid and easy allowing him to be accurate and firm on throws
Defense: Understands timing and rhythm well working through the baseball and showcasing well taught footwork. Tracked ball well during gameplay.
Run: 6.75 runner in the 60.
Jaron Nevarez, San Ramon Valley, 2022
Body: 5-9, 175-pounds. Lean, strong and athletic compact frame. Width in shoulders and some present strength
Hit: LHH. Balanced setup keeping hands at back shoulder with high back elbow; smooth and fluid load hinging into back leg and controlling posture forward. Front leg lift/tuck allows him to create momentum before firming up and allowing him to get into the frontside. Whippy hands; barrel can really get through the zone and put damage into the baseball. Showed pullside power and easy gap carry. Barrel feel pushes plus showing ability in gameplay to foul off good pitches and extend ABs. 24.4 gs Rotational Acceleration Max, 81.7 Bat Speed Max, 101.35 Max Exit Velocity, 75% Hard Hit.
Power: 101.30 mph exit velocity.
Arm: LH. OF - 91 mph. Compact and quick arm. Easy carry on throws and ability to keep firm on the bag.
Defense: Attacks ball in OF while controlling the body through it. Will take the extra hop to make sure he's entirely behind it on throws.
Run: 6.96 runner in the 60.
Delshaun Lanier, North Torrance, 2022
Body: 5-10, 158-pounds. Narrow frame, lean strength, and light muscular build.
Hit: RHH. Narrow squatted stance, even hands having hands work very deep in load. Stays on the backside through swing after front foot lift. Hips work well and propel the upper half. Upward path with hands turning barrel through the zone. Keeps his body in good sequence allowing him to rotate and have handspeed occur out front. When timing was on ball carried to the pullside gap; times where hands got steep leading to more groundballs.
Power: 94.00 mph exit velocity.
Arm: RH. OF - 85 mph. Long, deep arm with accurate throws to all the bases. Limited life on balls
Defense: Very deliberate approach to the ball; kept feet moving and showed good footwork moving through the baseball. Glove worked easily with the lead foot.
Run: 6.95 runner in the 60.
Evan Wallace, Buchanan, 2022
Body: 5-10, 165-pounds. Strong upper half with a tight waist and high hips. Athletic build projects well
Hit: RHH. High hands setup with slightly opened stance. Closes up, sinking in hips before making forward movement keeping hands above the baseball in the swing. Easy lift to the pullside with bat that is fluid and controlled. Lower half consistently able to transfer power up the chaing. Regularly found the barrel during his round (80% Hard Hit via Trackman). Metrics highlight a very impressive swing. 23.4 gs Max Rotational Acceleration, 26 Max Handspeed, 77.3 Max Bat Speed, 85% On Plane Efficiency
Power: 99.50 mph exit velocity
Arm: RH. OF - 81 mph. Compact out of glove, wider 3/4 arm action. Ball was online but limited carry to the bases.
Defense: Showed footwork to make plays in the OF; showed range in LF making plays in action.
Run: 6.92 runner in the 60.
Aidan Taclas, Sacred Heart Cathedral, 2022
Body: 6-1, 170-pounds. Long, Lanky, and projectable frame. Lots of room for added strength/projection
Hit: LHH. Wide, balanced with high back elbow and hands; hand pump gets the body started with simple forward move. Hands lead the swing continuing up and around front shoulder; stayed inside the ball well and flashed ability to stay compact. Best balls were line drives to the pull gap. 22.2 Max Hand Speed, 73.8 Max Bat Speed, 72% On Plane Efficiency
Power: 92.40 mph exit velocity
Arm: RH. OF - 82 mph. Fluid, Full swing arm fitting outfield. Limited life.
Defense: Moved well in OF upon approach and was efficient from glove to release.
Run: 7.37 runner in the 60.
Jordan Lewis, Alpha Charter, 2022
Body: 5-11, 170-pounds. High waist, compact frame has present strength and squared shoulders. Athletic build and still some space for projectable growth.
Hit: RHH. Balanced stance, hands just off the back shoulder staying in position as front side tightens in the load. Gets into the frontside well and shows good hip drive. Backside and hands come together on his turns having barrel work upwards around the front shoulder; best swings had ability to carry ball to pullside gap. 69.5 Max Bat Speed, 22.0 Max Handspeed, 15.2 gs Max Rotational Acceleration
Power: 91.00 mph exit velocity.
Arm: RH. OF - 92 mph. A quick and fluid arm that had balls jumping out of the hand. Easy carry to bags.
Defense: Moves easily to the baseball and showed ability to go get it during gameplay. Speed to stick in CF.
Run: 6.62 runner in the 60.
Austin Overn, Foothill, 2022
Body: 6-1, 165-pounds. High waist, track built body with explosive athletic actions. Plus runner with gliding actions
Hit: SH. Narrow, tight, and tall keeping hands low/even. Hands work back with quick toe-tap foot lift. Stiff front side allows the transfer of energy up chain. Quick handspeed and ability to keep barrel connected before releasing out front. Compact swing; Rotates easily and batspeed is an asset. Shows the ability to drive the ball and pullside power. 78.6 Max Batspeed, 16.2 gs Max Rotational Acceleration, 23.8 Max Handspeed,
Power: 93.50 mph exit velocity.
Arm: RH. OF - 85 mph. Compact arm, high back elbow. Able to get rid of it quickly.
Defense: Athleticism shows up with easy quick feet, bounces around and shows the actions to be a strong CF.
Run: 6.38 runner in the 60.
Justin Roulston, Culver City, 2022
Body: 6-3, 215-pounds. Athletic length with wider shoulders showing strength currently and some space for a bit more growth.
Hit: RHH. Balanced and relaxed with high back elbow staying tight and connected well. Slight sink in back hip with slight hand movement before exploding out of back hip. Very controlled lower half with ability to stick his forward movement. Loose and easy swing stays tight to rotations and has barrel follow hand path. Linedrives jumped off the bat during rounds. 75.3 Max Batspeed, 20.6 gs Max Rotational Acceleration, 24 Max Handspeed, 59% On Plane Efficiency, 54.5% Hard Hit.
Power: 96.30 mph exit velocity.
Arm: RH. OF - 81 mph. Compact arm with accurate throws. Good backspin to targets. Fits LF/CF
Defense: Long strides and breaks down easily to move through the baseball. Showed the ability to track during games and can go get it. Speed to fit in middle of OF.
Run: 6.74 runner in the 60.
Corbin Ybarra, Buchanan, 2022
Body: 6-4, 188-pounds. XL frame that has lean projectable strength currently; projection to add easy strength at full maturity.
Hit: RHH. High hands, slightly opened, slightly bent stance. Easy into the hinge early and showed the ability to start/stop hips very quickly to transfer energy. Good ability to tilt frame and work behind baseball. Loose, easy swing with barrel getting on-plane deep and staying in the zone upward through extension. Lift to the pullside with easy pullside power now. 79.7 Max Batspeed, 15.6 gs Max Rotational Acceleration, 22 Max Handspeed.
Power: 92.80 mph exit velocity
Arm: RH. OF - 87 mph. Stays in pocket well with compact arm that shows great handspeed out front. Throws consistently firm and carried to their targets
Defense: Athletic for the position with easy control of the body. Moved well and attacked the ball.
Run: 7.25 runner in the 60.
