2020 St. Augustine catcher and University of San Diego commit, Angelo Perazais listed at 5’ 8” 160 lbs and showed a twitchy, athletic and smaller build. Listed as a catcher, second baseman and pitcher, played the entire game behind the dish and displayed plus catching tools. Arm strength behind the dish is arguably the best in San Diego county, clocking all six of his in-between inning throws at 1.84-1.97-1.96-2.01-1.87-1.92 respectively. Extremely aggressive and active, constantly back-picking and looking to throw, threw out a runner at second on a steal attempt and backed picked a runner at first with the bases loaded. Arm speed is short and lightning quick and uses his body to get everything into the throw but at times his body creates an overthrow as was the case in a botched throw that caused his team a base. Lateral movements and instincts when blocking were outstanding. Receiving was average, will need to add strength and work on pitch framing. Displayed above-average speed at the catching position when he executed a bunt single beating out the throw by two steps. Showed some bat speed and the ability to make good contact on a deep fly-out. As is with his aggressive catching style, was aggressive in the box and looked to make something happen with every swing. Baseball movements, undersized physical nature and plus arm behind the dish compare to that of Tony Wolters. Hit tool will need to improve but his above-average defensive catching ability will find him playing time at the next level.

1/19/19

San Diego commit. Medium frame with strength in the lower half. Sets up in a deep crouch with backside well below his knees, almost on his ankles. At times this causes him trouble when popping up after a ball-in-dirt. Provides a good target with a straight back and shoulders pushed back. Shows soft hands and the ability to frame pitches without giving away location. Arm is strong with throws consistently on the bag in the 1.93 - 2.1 range. Shows some bat speed at the plate with feel for the barrel. Very good understanding of the strike zone - didn't chase bad pitches.
