Large 6-foot 150-pound frame, Uncommitted, extra long frame with a ton of room to hold more strength, versatile athlete. Switch hitter. Showed similar approaches from both sides this time out. Changed right side from a toe tap to small knee turn leg lift. Showed ability to barrel up baseball from both sides. Right side had a little more pop to LF. Left side was clean but a little slower. Pull approach from both sides of the plate with 82mph exit velocity. Solid overall arm strength with some quickness to transfer & release. Long arms give him the ability to get around & underneath balls. Pop times of 1.90-2.10 with some natural whippy arm strength at 75mph.
12/15/19
Large build at 6’ 150lbs, long lean frame with room to get stronger, versatile athlete- showed that he could do it all with some success. Switch hitting catcher that showed ability to barrel up baseball from both sides with 84mph exit velocity, clean repeatable swing from left side with small knee turn leg lift, from right side uses a small toe tap trigger & transfers more body weight, can also get on the mound to pitch a bit. Worked his FB 80-82 consistently, topping out at 84mph with shorter arm action, showed two breaking balls with slider showing well, Solid overall arm strength with 1.96-2.14 pop times- standing up at times, projectable athlete that moves well behind plate.
6/12/19
6’0 150-pound frame with room for weight. Switch hitter that’s stronger from the left side. Starts open from the left side, striding in towards the plate, slightly in from square. Hands have good rhythm from just above shoulder height, working down as he loads. Lands with knee flexed, allowing him to adjust. In zone early, matching pitch plane for a long time. Middle approach, that will start to see balls carry into gaps as he gets stronger. From the right side starts open, landing square, getting to his toe first. Good separation, getting hands back. Downhill bat path with a middle approach. Exit velo was 85 MPH. Good athlete behind the plate, making good plays during game play, including scooping a ball and throws out a would be base runner. Works around the baseball well with a clean transfer allow throws to be efficient. Pop time was 1.98-2.06
6/06/18
6-foot, 135-pounds. Highly projectable frame. Interesting skill set as a two-way player. Switch hitting catcher with his left handed swing being much more advanced. Generates loft with bat speed. Right handed swing had a flatter swing path and less bat speed; 75 mph exit velocity. Intriguing skill set behind the plate. Showed quick feet and transfer posting pop times ranging from 2.06 - 2.13 with a 73 mph catcher velocity. Good mobility. Also ran a 7.48 60-yard dash. On the mound Stewart showed very repeatable, clean mechanics running his fastball up to 80 mph. Dynamic lower half, back leg does a good job creating ground reaction forces, hips get fully through as upper half remains closed. Short, clean arm action. Solid forward trunk tilt at release. Featured two breaking balls, a curveball and a slider. Curveball worked 62-64 mph with 11/5 shape and gradual break. Slider was a bit harder at 66-67 mph with shorter two plane break. Change up was thrown at 70-73 mph that flashed solid sinking action.
5/20/18
6-foot, 135-pound frame with high-waist and long limbs. Remains very thin but should add significant strength/mass at some point. Starting to show signs of making a physical jump, lowering his 60 time to 7.53, raising his catcher velo to 73 mph and hopping on the mound to touch 80 mph with his fastball. The right-handed swing remains well behind the left-handed version, where he does an excellent job of getting on plane and keeping the barrel in the zone with some natural loft. RH swing leaves the zone quickly and doesn’t create the same solid base. Turned in 2.09 best pop time with solid mechanics and could project to a number of positions, including pitcher, depending on physical development. Secondary offerings are still developing on the mound, but 63-66 mph breaking pitch did show proper rotation at times.
1/28/18
Thin 6-foot, 135-pound frame with very high waist and long limbs. Should add considerably strength/mass throughout his high school career. Switch-hitter is far more advanced from the left side where he does an excellent job staying behind the baseball and shows some natural loft. Made hard contact out in front and shows surprising power for his present body type with a loose, easy rhythm. Right-handed swing shows considerable rigidity and may be best served just sticking to the left side. 7.71 60-yard dash is mostly an indicator of his physical development and should improve with maturity; has athletic look. Shows solid flexibility behind the plate and turned in 2.13 best pop time with 68 mph velocity.
1/27/18
6 feet, 146 pounds. Fast improving and maturing body continues to intrigue. The switch hitter showed more bat speed from both sides. Left side remains ahead of the right side. Smooth left side uses lower half well, getting on plane early and showing the ability to stay in the zone. Right handed swing, while much improved, has work to do to produce the same numbers as the left side. Athletic transfer behind the plate get him a 2.06 pop time, but with arm strength continuing to improve, look for that number to go down in a hurry.
1/27/18
Uses third base side of the rubber. Trouble getting the ball glove side may be caused by foot placement and potentially taking action away from fastball. Short arm swing. Breaking balls may morph into one solid pitch for him in the future, due to spinning the ball well but inconsistency. Change up had good depth to it and showed feel for it in and below the zone.
12/10/17
Very projectable 6-foot, 135-pound frame with a high waist and long limbs. At first glance he looks more like a SS or CF, but is very comfortable behind the plate and has a loose swing with loft that projects for at least gap power as his body fills out. 2.13 best pop time.
