Really easy delivery from a very athletic player. The ball came out of the hand very easily and the fastball showed some sink as he located the pitch down in the zone up to 82 mph. The slider was 68-71 mph and showed very late action. Has some potential on the mound. Strong lower half with a slightly open stance that showed a slightly tilted bat path and a mostly pull side approach. There is some present strength in the hands and the lower half is slightly rotational. He was also 90 mph off the tee. Athletic MIF that presents the glove well out front and showed easy movement on the slow roller in front. The arm strength and accuracy is nice as he was 81 mph to 1B.

A ‘21 player that has improved immensely since we last saw him as he has added both size and strength. In the OF he tracked balls very well and the arm strength is there with a fairly quick transfer. During IF drills he showed nice lateral range and played low to the ground. Arm strength is not an issue at either spot (88 mph from the OF, 84 mph across the diamond). Really creates some juice off the bat (91 mph exit velo off a tee) from an open stance and a fairly level swing plane. Created carry and backspin off the barrel and showed some violence in the swing and strength in the hands. Really liked the rhythm of the load in the swing of this versatile ‘21 grad.

After attending other PBR events in the past, we were very impressed at how much Merriweather has progressed since. Offensively, he starts with a slightly open stance and has a little leg kick in his swing. Showed some pull side pop during his BP round. Defensively, he showed very well during gameplay behind the plate. There were many balls in the dirt that he was able to block and keep in front. Love his game. On the mound, Merriweather’s FB played 76-77 T79 with a nice, loose arm action. SL was 68-69 and showed tight spin. Very athletic delivery.
Brayden Merriweather (2021, RHP/C, Madison Academy) 5’9 145 lbs- 7.19.18- did a lot of good things at the event showing fast twitch actions. A 7.15 60 yard dash runner, he was very consistent behind the plate showing pop times in the 2.15-2.17 range and a C velo of 71 mph while doing a good job of receiving pitches. Offensively he showed some pullside pop with his leg kick approach at the plate resulting in an 81 mph exit velo. As a pitcher, his fastball sat 72-74, topping at 75 with good ASR. His breaking ball had tight spin and had more of a slider type action at 64-66 and he also featured a changeup at 67-68. A name to remember in the 2021 class.
