Russell continues to show us why he is one of the top 2025s in the province. He creates deception with a short/quick arm and was locating all 3 of his offerings for strikes. The fastball sits 84-86 mph and he has the ability to spin it north of 2300 rpm which adds carry when located up in the zone. He possesses two unique breaking balls that he tunnels well. The CB has 10 inches of induced vertical break and over 2300 rpm, while the slider has over 12 inches of horizontal break that he can spin north of 2500 rpm.

The uncommitted 2025 grad impressed our staff last fall at the St. Joseph’s/AHP Scout Day. He has a short, quick arm creating deception and was up to 85 mph at the scout day. He can spin both the curveball and slider north of 2400 rpm, with the curveball having over 10 inches of vertical depth. He does well creating unique profiles on the breaking balls with the slider having 12+ inches of horizontal break and being thrown slightly harder than the curveball (74 mph SL vs 70 mph CB). The changeup is also an effective pitch as he does a good job killing spin and locating it for strikes. With added strength and a velocity increase, Russell’s repertoire will jump to a new level as a growth in velocity will improve his already impressive spin numbers.
