Western Pennsylvania Scout Day Preview: Part One

The Western PA Fall Scout Day to be held Sunday, October 8th at Robertson Field on the campus of Allegheny College will bring together some of the best uncommitted seniors from Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Although not exclusive to the Class of 2018, this event provides a tremendous opportunity for remaining uncommitted seniors to perform in front of multiple programs still looking to complete their 2018 recruiting class. We will preview the ranked players from Pennsylvania and West Virginia on the roster in two segments.

Steven Miller

Steven Miller, Pa #95
SS/ RHP / North Hills, PA / 2018

6-foot-1 180-pound right-handed hitter and thrower. Miller is a toolsy MI with chance to be two player in right program. Measurables include 6.69 sixty, 88 mh exit velocity and 83 mph positional velocity from left side of infield. Defensively, above average glove skills have been demonstrated at previous PBR events. On the hill, FB has been recorded 82-84 mph with considerable arm side run. Miller has also shown command of secondary offerings including change up demonstrating solid depth and fade as well as CB with 11-5 shape and makings of out pitch. Overall, Miller presents as a versatile, athletic next level prospect.

 


Dylan Swarmer

6-foot, 185-pound physical right-handed hitter has impressed defensively at multiple PBR events. An accurate 75 mph arm out of crouch has resulted in pop times of 2.05-2.14. Swarmer has demonstrated solid receiving skills with soft hands in framing and advanced blocking ability. Additional measurables include 7.31 sixty time and 93 mph bat exit velocity.


Jacob McCaskey

SS / RHP / Deer Lakes, PA / 2018

6-foot, 175-pound right-handed- hitter and thrower represents another intriguing two prospect. Recent improvement has been noted in both gap to gap power and contact consistency. McCaskey swings with a intent and aggression while demonstrating solid barrel whip and balance. A bat exit velocity of 86 mph and 7.02 sixty time have been recorded at PBR events. Defensively, athleticism is evident in area quickness and glove hand is solid. On the hill, FB sits 82-84, CH 70-72, CB 71-72. ability to command all offerings has been demonstrated. CB is a swing miss pitch with 11-5 shape and late, sharp break.


Chase Swain

6-foot-4, 205-pound two-way prospect with advanced offensive abilities. The left-handed hitter put together impressive numbers as a junior that included a .494 batting average with an .828 slugging percentage. He also stole seven bases, drove in 45 runs, hit 11 doubles and clubbed six home runs. The two-way prospect was nearly as impressive on the mound going 5-0 with a 1.24 earned run average including 85 strikeouts in 51 innings of work.


Blake Wasson

6-foot-2, 160-pound right-handed pitcher has recently jumped onto radar based on long-levered frame and loose arm action with present velocity and projectable gains. Fast ball was most recently seen at 85-87 mph and CB at 70-72 with slurvy 10-4 action. Wasson has shown willingness to pound zone and attack hitters.
