WV Top Prospect Games Review: Corner Infield Analysis

The summer rush of PBR events in Pennsylvania and West Virginia came to a close with the inaugural WV Top Prospect Games on August 9 and 10. Prospects from four states assembled at the YMCA Kennedy Center Field in Huntington, WV for two days of nine inning games and showcase activities. Today we continue our analysis of the prospects in attendance by taking a look at the corner infielders that participated.

2016 3B/RHP Eddie Flores (Nitro HS)

Eddie FloresFlores earned MVP honors for the Red Team following an impressive showing on the mound and a 2-for-5 showing at the plate over two days. The 5-foot-8, 175-pound junior displayed an 81 mph arm across the diamond and a 91 mph bat exit velocity. The right-handed hitter showcased loose hands and a strong lower half from a square stance in barreling the baseball routinely during batting practice. Flores creates significant barrel whip and the ball jumps off his bat regularly. The righty worked three innings on the mound over two days displaying command of three pitches with repeatable mechanics. Flores sat 83-85 with his four seam fastball and has a hard biting 76 mph curveball in his arsenal that at times buckled hitters.

2015 1B Hunter Halstead (Woodrow Wilson HS)

Hunter HalsteadHalstead earned MVP honors for the Black Team going 3-for-7 with a double and a home run in game action. The 6-foot-2, 165-pound right-handed hitter barreled the baseball routinely in batting practice with good extension to his swing from a square stance. Halstead utilizes a leg lift stride foot and incorporates loose hands to create a bat exit velocity of 82 mph. The uncommitted senior displayed good feet and a soft glove hand around the bag at 1B with an accurate 73 mph arm across the diamond.

2015 1B Bryton Jobe (Cabell Midland HS)

Bryton JobeJobe is a 6-foot-1, 205-pound left-handed hitter that showcased a 79 mph bat exit velocity from a square stance. He displayed the ability to consistently square the baseball to all fields during batting practice utilizing a strong lower half to drive both gaps. The uncommitted senior has a projectable frame and could develop additional power as his frame continues to mature. Jobe showed athletic actions and a soft glove hand around the bag at 1B with an accurate 81 mph arm across the diamond.

2015 3B/1B Dante Parente (Blackhawk HS, PA)

Dante ParenteParente showcased a short swing path and the ability to stay inside the baseball during a solid round of batting practice. The 6-foot, 185-pound left-handed hitter registered an 82 mph bat exit velocity and went 1-for-3 with a single and an RBI in game action on day one. The uncommitted senior has shown the ability to be a quality defender at both corner infield positions with a soft glove hand and good feet. Parente displayed the ability to play through the baseball with an accurate 76 mph arm from third base.

2015 1B Tyler Hall (State College Area HS, PA)

Hall displayed capable footwork and a 73 mph arm across the diamond from 1B during defensive evaluations. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound right-handed hitter went 2-for-6 in game action and registered a 69 mph bat exit velocity. Hall hits from a slightly open stance and has a short, compact swing path that produced consistent solid contact during his round of batting practice.

2015 3B/RHP J.R. Stricklen (Sissonville HS)

Stricklen went 1-for-5 during game action from an open stance with a flat swing path. The uncommitted senior left-handed hitter has loose hands and displayed the ability to use all fields while registering a bat exit velocity of 74 mph. Stricklen displayed a 78 mph arm across the diamond from 3B and worked an inning on the mound topping at 76 mph from a sidearm delivery.

2016 3B/RHP Dante' Vaniel (McKeesport HS, PA)

Vaniel showed promise at the plate going 3-for-5 in game action over the course of two days. The 6-foot, 180-pound right-handed hitter displayed a flat swing path from a square stance with a lift and replace stride to create a bat exit velocity of 77 mph. Vaniel flashed good feet and the ability to play through the baseball at 3B with a developing 73 mph arm across the diamond. The righty worked three innings on the mound topping at 77 mph from a high 3/4 arm slot.
