By Greg Williams
WV Director of Scouting

While the snow continues to fly and temperatures on most days struggle to reach the freezing point, it's never too early to begin to look ahead. Today we take a look at some of the top prospects already lined up to showcase their talents at several events on the summer schedule.

PA Top Prospect Games (june 17-18, university of pittsburgh)

Colin ClausLast year's event drew 35 colleges to Bucknell University to take a look at a talented group of prospects over the two days of the event. Since its completion, 34 prospects have gone on to make college commitments. This year's Top Prospect Games is likely to draw an even larger group of scouts and talented prospects from several states to the University of Pittsburgh for what is sure to be an exciting two days of baseball.

RHP Colin Claus (West Allegheny HS, PA) is among a talented group of prospects already on the roster. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound junior is currently ranked No. 50 in the PA Class of 2015 and one of the top uncommitted pitchers remaining in the class. Claus has command of a fastball, curveball, changeup repertoire and went 5-2 with two saves and a 1.73 ERA as a sophomore. His mid-80s fastball has late life and his curveball has late biting action.

PBR Mid-atlantic border Battle (July 18-20, harford community college)

Cullen DanaThe inaugural PBR Mid-Atlantic Border Battle will showcase top prospects participating as a member of one of five teams in four games each over the span of three days (July 18-20) at Harford Community College in Bel Air, MD. Players will be divided into teams that represent states in the Mid-Atlantic region (New York/New Jersey, Maryland, West Virginia/Virginia, Eastern Pennsylvania and Western Pennsylvania). Early indications are that a handful of top prospects from other states will also participate.

LHP/1B Cullen Dana (Don Bosco Prep, NJ) highlights the early additions to the New York/New Jersey roster. The 6-foot-5, 215-pound junior will showcase a mid-80s fastball and a power bat. Don Bosco Prep is perennially one of the top high school baseball programs in New Jersey.

Spencer TinkelThe Eastern Pennsylvania roster was bolstered by the early addition of RHP/3B Spencer Tinkel (New Hope-Solebury HS, PA). The 6-foot-3, 185-pound righty sat 83-85 with late run and sink to his fastball at the PA Underclass Games in June. Tinkel also commanded a 75 mph slider and a 76 mph changeup thrown at near fastball arm speed. He worked four hitless innings, striking out eight of the final 10 batters he faced. Tinkel also showed some two-way abilities with an 83 mph bat exit velocity and a solid 80 mph throwing arm across the diamond. Tinkel is ranked No. 35 in the PA Class of 2015.

wv top prospect games (august 8-9, marshall university)

Drew LettThe inaugural WV Top Prospect Games promises to be filled with top prospects from across the mountain state as well as players from several surrounding states. The newly renovated YMCA Kennedy Center Field in Huntington will play host to the event. The home for non-conference games of the Marshall Thundering Herd has received numerous upgrades this past fall including the installation of a new artificial turf infield. Early indications are that many of the top prospects in the state will take advantage of an opportunity to showcase their talents in front of college coaches during the course of the two day event.

SS/RHP Drew Lett (Doddridge County HS) is among the early additions to the roster. The 6-foot-2, 160-pound SS/RHP, ranked No. 16 in the WV Class of 2016, showed promise during the Fall College Prospect Program in August. Lett showed a low 80s fastball and long, loose arm action.
