Prep Baseball Report

Updated WV 2016 Rankings Released

By Greg Williams
WV Director of Scouting

As the snow begins to fly and baseball moves indoors for the next four months, the Prep Baseball Report scouting staff has reevaluated West Virginia's Class of 2016 rankings.

This class is top heavy with talented shortstops. Linsly School's Logan Goodnight, a Penn State commit, continues to hold down the top spot in the rankings but is being pushed by a trio of middle infielders. Bridgeport's Dante Bonamico, Ripley's Christopher Jordan (a Marshall commit) and Jefferson's Paul Witt have all shown next level ability. Add in Nitro 3B/RHP Eddie Flores and exactly half of the top ten spots in the rankings are filled by infielders.

The remaining five spots in the top ten belong to right-handed pitchers with George Washington's Druw Bowen sitting at No. 2 overall. Bowen impressed as a member of Team Pennsylvania last August in the PBR Future Games in Indiana. A pair of Marshall commits, Nitro teammates Jacob Bradley and Matt Harrison, follow Bowen at No. 5 and No. 7 respectively.

Bradley and Harrison will team with LHP Kipp Brewer, No. 7 in the WV Class of 2015, to give Nitro arguably the top rotation in the state heading into the 2015 campaign. Add in talented freshman RHP Levi Kelly who sits in the mid-80s before throwing his first pitch as a varsity athlete, and Nitro could very well be the odds on favorite to win the 3A state title next spring.
