Updated Class of 2016 Rankings Released

With four events in the books, it is time to release our summer update to the class of 2016 player rankings, which has expanded to 50 prospects. Below is a sneak preview of the updated top ten, along with notable risers and additions.

Harrison makes a move towards No. 1


The top of the Class of 2016 rankings have looked the same over the better part of the past two years, with Penn State commit Logan Goodnight (The Linsly School) holding down the top spot in the rankings. That could change if Nitro outfielder Matt Harrison (right) continues his upward trajectory.

Coming off a monster spring Harrison, a Marshall commit, slides up five spots to number two. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound outfielder put up monster numbers this past spring hitting .420 with 10 home runs and 43 RBI. The physical outfielder hit lead-off to better utilize his 6.70 foot speed.

Harrison is joined in the top 10 by three Nitro teammates; RHP Jacob Bradley at No. 5, catcher Matt Jewell at No. 9 and 3B/RHP Eddie Flores at No. 10. Bradley is a Marshall commit, and Jewell jumps nine spots from his previous No. 18 ranking following a strong spring in which the Wildcats advanced to the Class AAA state title game.

Barnholt enters at No. 14


Jefferson rode a seemingly endless supply of pitchers and strong offense at the top of their order to a Class AAA title this spring. Charlie Barnholt had a lot to due with that run. The 6-foot, 185-pound 1B/RHP earned 1st Team All-State honors in a junior season that saw him hit .407 with 50 RBI. The two-way prospect also went 6-1 with a 1.25 ERA.

A trio of middle infielders enter rankings for the first time in this update. Brian Schack (Shady Spring, No. 16), Trevor Sampson (South Charleston, No. 17) and Fargo Camerlengo (Brooke, No. 18) all slide into the top 20 following standout spring campaigns. Right-handed pitcher Levi Nash (PikeView) also makes his first appearance at No. 20 following a 10-1 junior season on the hill.
