2017 Unsigned Senior Showcase

Uncommitted seniors often begin to get a little uneasy at this point entering the winter of their final year of high school. With the early signing period now over a general attitude of unrest tends to settle in if the right school has not come calling for them.

On January 28th unsigned seniors will have their opportunity to stand out on a day set aside for them to display their talent in front of those schools that are still looking to fill their recruiting needs for the fall of 2017.

The 2017 Unsigned Senior Showcase is just under two months away, but the roster is already beginning to take shape. This event continues to grow in popularity and in its ability to help match available seniors with college programs that have needs. Over the past four years nearly 50 participants have gone on to make college commitments with several others attempting to walk on and make college rosters this fall.

As the roster begins to fill for this year's event we will spotlight many of the prospects scheduled to participate in advance of January 28.

SCOUTING REPORT

2016 High School Season (5/3/16) Medium build with good arm speed. Incorporates an overhead rocker, gathers over the rubber well, turns his back to the hitter, and pitches out of a three-quarter slot. Despite some head whack he absolutely pounds the zone (three walks in 37 IP on the season so far). FB has ticked up since previous viewings to 82-83, touching 84. Not afraid to pitch inside. Tight SL at 75-76 with late action generated a number of swings, including from a left-handed hitter who has a chance to be a early-round pick in this spring's MLB First-Year Player Draft (struck him out twice, in fact).

2016 Preseason All-State Showcase (2/14/16) 6-foot, 170-pound righty sat 79-81 from a 3/4 arm slot with a significant hip-coil to his delivery. Sabath also incorporates an overhead rocker that adds to the deception with some arm-side run to his fastball. The junior's changeup is thrown at fastball arm speed with the same fade and some late sink. Sabath's 73 mph slider gives him three quality pitches with a quirky delivery that will give him an opportunity to get outs early at the next level.
