St. Albans' Jake Carr Named PBR West Virginia Player of the Year

The 2019 spring high school season in West Virginia generated some incredible individual moments and performances throughout all corners of the state. As the spring high school season comes to a close, Prep Baseball Report is excited to announce one player who emerged ahead of the competition at all levels in the state of West Virginia. This player has been selected not only for his outstanding statistical numbers, but also for his overall effect on his high school program.
Jake Carr a senior pitcher from St. Albans, produced a strong statistical season while helping lead his team back to the AAA state title (also won in 2017).
The 5-foot-10, 165-pounder is headed to West Virginia University following an impressive high school career. As a senior Carr was dominant on the mound. In 63 innings he compiled a 7-0 record with three saves. He struck out 105 while only surrendering 14 walks (7.5/1 K-BB ratio). He bested state runner-up Hurricane twice, combining to pitch 13.1 innings while striking out 20 and walking just two batters. In Myrtle Beach, he pitched a complete game striking out nine and yielding only two hits in a 2-1 win against eventual North Carolina 3A State Champion High Point Christian. For the season Carr held opposing hitters to an impressive .119 batting average against to go with a 0.22 ERA.
Carr's all-around performance, as well as the impact he has had on St. Albans, has earned him the 2019 Prep Baseball Report West Virginia State Player of the Year honors.

Scouting Report
5.31.18 - 5-foot-9, 160-pound lefty went the distance on this night in the WV State AAA semifinals. He sat 85-87 early touching 88 mph out of a high 3/4 arm slot with some armside run to his fastball. Curveball has slider shape at 75-77 and was devastating when he threw it back foot to right-handed hitters. Allowed one unearned run and was in command from start to finish. Final fastball of the evening registered 86 mph.
