Region Preview: Class AA - Region I

With the start of the high school season less than a month away we will be previewing each region in each classification statewide. In addition to a look at the top teams we will also highlight some of the top prospects in each region.

                 Class AA - Region I

Preseason Favorite

Fairmont Senior (27-7)


The Polar Bears return six of nine starters from last year's AAA state runner-up team. The biggest loss comes in the form of pitching. Senior RHP Bailey Mohr is likely to inherit the No. 1 starter role this season and the success of the Polar Bears' season will likely rest on the progression of the remainder of the pitchers on the staff.

 

In the Hunt

Oak Glen (12-9), Ritchie County (19-15)

Oak Glen can win on any given night with RHP Bub Haddox on the mound. Ritchie County will rely on speedy lead-off hitter Dylan Frye to jump start their offense. The Rebels return 11 members of their varsity roster that accounted for 19 wins a year ago.

 

Preseason Player of the Year

Dylan FryeDylan Frye, OF, Ritchie County HS (Class of 2014)

Frye is a 5-foot-8, 145-pound OF from Ritchie County HS. He hit .420 with 26 RBI in 2012. He followed that up by hitting .407 with 47 runs scored in 2013 being named to the honorable mention AA All-State team. The Coastal Carolina recruit runs a 6.59 60-yard dash and is ranked No. 12 in the WV Class of 2014.
