September 23, 2018
This fall, we will be taking a closer look at each member of the PBR Fall Showcase Team, known as the Appalachian Aces. Today we highlight 2019 switch-hitting OF Jon Milton (Linsly School) who is Uncommitted.
Kuykendall on Milton: "Jon is no doubt one of the top performers in the state of West Virginia. He has pop both ways he swings it, and a good arm in the outfield. I feel he has the ability to make an immediate impact at the next level."

Scouting Report
6/20/18
A scholarship level talent out of the state of West Virginia. A true switch hitter with the ability to do damage from both sides. Movements are almost identical from both sides with a slightly more intent driven stroke from the left. Ball jumps off his barrel. Likely ends up being a gap guy at the next level that will show occasional power. Very functional in the outfield with fluid actions and mid 80s arm.

6/20/17 - A switch hitter at the plate. From the right side he looks athletic and fluid. Path is level and he gets on plane early. Barrel gets through contact with authority. From the left side he is similar mechanically with a more aggressive approach. Worked primarily to his pull side. Has a tendency to spin off contact at times. Projects to be able to hit from both sides as the next level. Looks confident and athletic in the outfield. Plays through the baseball well, maintaining momentum into his throws. Arm strength stands out and throws were on target. On the mound the southpaw is very mechanically efficient with a clean arm. Works very quickly in between pitches, keeping defense engaged. Arm moves through a high-¾ slot with above average arm speed. A strike thrower that has feel for all three of his offerings. Works off his 74-79 mph fastball that had slight run at times. Throws his breaking ball firm, giving it depth at 70-71 mph. The pitch has good spin to it with sharpness on a 1/7 plane. Looks to be his out pitch. Also showed feel for a changeup that was very impressive at 67-68 mph. Milton is able to maintain his arm speed on the pitch that showed late fade. 5-foot-11, 175-pound athletic, projectable frame. Defensively he showcased well in the outfield. He has good footwork while approaching the baseball and takes good angles, consistently fielding ground balls on his glove side. Transitions footwork into a good crow hop, throwing with a clean arm action through an upper ¾ slot while recording a velocity of 84 mph from the outfield. Really impressed at the plate. A true switch hitter with twitch from both sides of the plate. Mechanically similar with a very fluid swing sequence. Gap to gap pop at this stage with more juice on its way. The southpaw uses an uptempo delivery that requires moderate effort. Works from the 3rd base side of the rubber and uses his natural arm side run to get to the outer half of the plate to right handed hitters. Fastball has some life and comes through a high ¾ slot at 75-78 mph. Would not be surprised to see a velo increased as he learns to incorporate lower half. Curveball is thrown with 1/7 shape at 64-68 mph with some sharpness.Changeup came in at 69-70 mph and could be hard to recognize for hitters. Does a good job of tunneling all of his pitches.
