Advancing to the state tournament is a dream that every player has when the season begins. Members of the Notre Dame Irish realized that dream in 2013 and although they lost 4-3 to Magnolia in the semifinals a return trip should not only be a dream, but an expectation.
The Irish did not have a single senior that played in the state semifinal game. They also did not have a single senior on their roster. With five junior starters returning for their senior seasons in 2014, along with a host of talented underclassmen, the future looks very bright.
Sophomore Spencer Harlow was particularly impressive against Magnolia. The 5-foot-8, 170-pound prospect showed pop times of 2.12-2.20 in game action and solid receiving skills behind the plate. He made the move to the mound late in the game where he sat 77-79 out of a high 3/4 arm slot. Harlow also showed command of a 69 mph 11/5 breaking curveball. Hitting third in the Irish lineup, Harlow went 0-2 with a walk and a run scored.
