Tristan Lucas made his first appearance in the WV Class of 2015 rankings following a strong showing at the Western PA College Prospect Showcase on January 12. The 6-foot, 165-pound outfielder from University HS needs to refine some of his skills, but possesses a great deal of athleticism and promise.
Lucas showcased his foot speed at the event running an event best 4.00 home-to-1B from the right side of the plate. He showed the ability to make plays on the move and a solid arm at 77 mph from the outfield. Offensively is where he has the greatest amount of potential as well as the need for adjustments. Lucas currently pulls the bat head through the zone and fails to get to extension on a regular basis. He still showcased an 81 mph bat exit velocity and solid hand-eye coordination in barreling the baseball routinely.
Lucas, currently ranked No. 25 in his class, had a productive sophomore season and could be ready for a breakout spring. He hit .351 as a sophomore with 15 runs scored, 15 RBI and a .405 on base percentage. Lucas swiped just seven bases in nine attempts. As he refines his game, his ability to get on base and potential to steal bases will place added pressure on opposing defenses.
