In a battle of two teams that reached the State semifinals in 2014, Wheeling Park rode the right arm of West Virginia recruit Michael Grove to a 4-1 win over Hurricane. Grove allowed four hits and one earned run while tossing a complete game with eight strikeouts.
The No. 2 ranked prospect in the WV Class of 2015 needed 109 pitches to dispose of the Redskins, ranked No. 3 in the current PBR Elite Eight Rankings, and did not allow a run until the final inning. Grove supported his own cause by going 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and a run scored.
Garrett Gress was the lone multi-hit performer for Hurricanse going 2-for-3 while driving in the only run. The Redskins drop to 10-4 on the season and will host St. Albans in a night game this evening. Wheeling Park improves to 3-7 on the season and will also play St. Albans tomorrow.
