Game of the Day: Spring Valley at Riverside

Spring Valley, No. 7 in the most recent Metro News AAA Power Rankings, paid a visit to Riverside on Friday and pitchers dominated in a one run affair. Both starters went the distance limiting hitters to a combined seven hits on the day with only three walks allowed.

Spring Valley right-hander Casey Kelly was the hard luck loser allowing four hits and one walk while striking out three. Both runs allowed by the senior were unearned. Riverside left-hander Jeremy Moles was even better using just 67 pitches in his complete game effort while allowing three hits and no earned runs.

Two singles, an error and a walk allowed Riverside to get on the board first in the bottom of the 1st inning. Kelley helped his own cause in the top of the 4th inning when he reached on an error and scored on a double by Daniel Brandon to knot the game at one.

Riverside used a lead off single by Andrew Massey followed by an error on a sacrifice bunt attempt and a sacrifice fly by Ryan McNeal to regain the lead. The one run lead was all Moles needed as he cruised through the final three frames for the win facing just two batters over the minimum.

Anthony CarfagnaAnthony Carfagna, Hayden Burke, Jason Bostic and Massey accounted for the four Riverside hits on the evening, all singles. Riverside moves to 11-11 with the win while Spring Valley falls to 12-5.
