South Charleston 5, Cabell Midland 4
Sitting at No. 3 in the most recent Metro News AAA Power Rankings, South Charleston used a pair of doubles in the bottom of the 7th inning for a walkoff win on Monday.
The Black Knights played catch up for most of the evening. Following an RBI single by Isaiah Moss in the bottom of the first inning Cabell Midland answered with three runs in the top of the 3rd. A pair of singles, an error, a walk and a sacrifice bunt gave the visitors a short lived 3-1 lead.
South Charleston was the beneficiary of three walks, a hit batter and a passed ball in cutting the deficit to 3-2 in the bottom of the 3rd. Cabell Midland starter Zach McNeel was able to escape further damage by inducing a double play to get out of a bases loaded, one out jam.
A Coleton Carter double, followed by a Cole Tilley single pushed the Cabell Midland lead to 4-2 in the top of the 5th inning. South Charleston tied the game in the bottom half of the inning on a pair of Cabell Midland errors and a double by Trevor Sampson setting up the drama in the bottom of the 7th inning.
Sampson opened the home half of the final frame with the score still tied 4-4 by doubling to left field. Following an intentional walk to set up a potential double play, Brendan Quinn doubled to drive home Sampson with the game winning run.
