DeVaulFletcher DeVaul has made a name for himself with a bat in his hands during his senior season at Fairmont Senior. During the regular season, DeVaul went 43 for 83, with 38 runs scored and 23 runs batted in, and only struck out four times. On Tuesday night it was his right arm that took center stage.

DeVaul faced two batters over the minimum in leading the Polar Bears to a 11-0, mercy rule victory over Braxton County to secure a spot in the 2A Region I finals on Thursday. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound unsigned senior struck out 10, and allowed just two hits in going the distance for the shutout.

DeVaul sat 84-86, while touching 87 several times. He polished off the final two hitters of the game with 87 and 85mph fastballs respectively. DeVaul also commanded a 74-77 mph 1/5 breaking curveball that he used sparingly.

The Polar Bear offense was led by junior 1B Johnny Kesling who went 2-for-3, with four RBI. Austin Norman (2-for-3) and Jayce Riley (2-for-3, 2 doubles) also had multiple hit games.

Recruiting news

+ DeVaul is currently unsigned and looking to potentially walk on at West Virginia to attempt to earn a roster spot with the Mountaineers. With last night's performance DeVaul is likey to be fielding some phone calls over the coming weeks from programs still looking for a solid arm and a potential two-way prospect at the next level.
