Class A Week 7: Power 5

Throughout the West Virginia high school baseball regular season we will be posting a Power 5 in each classification. Updates will be made for Class AAA on Mondays, AA on Tuesdays and A on Wednesdays. Check back frequently at PBR West Virginia to follow team and individual results from the previous week. Today we take a a look at our final Class A top 5 headed into the playoffs.

WHEELING CENTRAL

Summary:
Wheeling Central jumps two spots to occupy our final top spot. The Maroon Knights finished their regular season with a 17-4 record and are poised to make a serious run at a state title. Individual statistics were not available.
CHARLESTON CATHOLIC

Summary:
Charleston Catholic is a hard team to figure going into the playoffs. On one hand they are the defending state champions and have at times played as such. However, they have lost eight regular season games, albeit multiple were to larger schools, and recently have struggled, going 2-3 in their last five.The Irish were 1-2 this week. Brandon Combs provided middle of the order run production. The senior hit .600 and drove in eight runs on the week. Brendan Lanham got the only mound win of the week. He went the distance, allowing two earned runs, in beating Point Pleasant.
WILLIAMSTOWN

Summary:
Williamstown drops one slot after a 1-1 week. The Yellowjackets close out the regular season at 20-5-1. Individual statistics were not available.
RAVENSWOOD

Summary:
Ravenswood is playing well entering the playoffs. They are coming off a 2-1 week with the lone loss being to a good AAA Parkersburg South team. Chase Swain had a day to remember in a 5-3 victory over Clay County. The senior threw a complete game, striking out seven, while allowing only one earned run. In the ultimate help yourself scenario, he also blasted two home runs. The second bomb was a two run walk-off shot. Blake Bennett and Lakin Tucker were major offensive contributors to the Red Devils successful week.
MOOREFIELD

Summary:
Moorefield hangs onto the No. 5 spot by going 2-1 this week. Jake Ours went 2-for-4, with a homerun and four RBI, in a hard fought 6-5 win over Berkeley Springs.
