The spring season is underway and our analysis of the Milwaukee Preseason I.D. continues with the top infield prospects. Throughout the week we have been breaking down each position with complete scouting reports of players from the event. For our breakdown of infielders we look at the top infielders in each graduating class, starting with juniors.

Here’s a look at the top infield prospects

Top 2017 Prospects

1. Zach Clayton, SS, Oconomowoc, 2017
Oregon State commit. Currently ranked No. 7 in the Wisconsin Class of 2017. Offensively hits form a balanced setup with a short leg lift stride. Gap to gap hitter with some pop. Fluid rhythm at the plate with a fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 96 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.00. Defensively has a long arm action from a high ¾ slot. Throws showed carry across the infield at 86 mph. Athletic actions with average hands. Projects best at third base or a corner outfield spot, and his bat will likely play in the middle of any lineup. 

2. Jack Blomgren, SS, Janesville Craig, 2017
Currently ranked No. 6 in the Wisconsin Class of 2017. 6-foot, 170-pound right-handed hitting shortstop with an athletic frame. Impresses most with the glove. Has a loose arm action from a high ¾ slot. Accurate throws with carry, throwing 87 mph across the infield. Fluid, athletic actions, plays thru the ball. Soft, sure hands with a quick, clean exchange. High level defender. Offensively hits from a balanced, slightly open stance with a short stride with pre pitch rhythm in the hands. Short, uphill swing path. Showed strength thru contact with 86 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.18.

3. Alex Rodriguez, SS, Cudahy, 2017
Northern Illinois commit. Currently ranked No. 11 in the Wisconsin Class of 2017. 5-foot-8, 145-pound right-handed hitting shortstop with a strong frame. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ slot. Accurate throws with carry, throwing 86 mph across the infield. Showed plus athletic action and body control on the infield. Quick, fluid footwork with soft hands a quick, clean exchange. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a smooth load and short stride. Good balance at the plate. Line drive spray hitter with a short path and a fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 90 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 6.96.

4. Walker Jenkins, SS, Sun Prairie, 2017
5-foot-11, 165-pound switch hitting shortstop with an athletic frame. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ slot. Accurate throws with carry. Threw 90 mph across the infield. Plays thru the ball with athletic actions and soft hands. Offensively from the left side hits from a tall, balanced setup with a short stride and short, level swing path. 83 mph exit velocity from a tee. From the right side hits from a wider base with a short uphill path. 85 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.12. 

5. Mitchell Buban, SS/RHP, Tremper, 2017
6-foot-2, 180-pound right-handed hitting SS/RHP with a lanky, athletic frame. Defensively has a loose arm action from a high ¾ slot. Accurate throws with carry across the infield throwing 87 mph. Plays thru the ball with a quick exchange and soft hands. Offensively hits from a balanced setup, loads hands to backside with a short linear stride. Short swing path with a one arm finish. 81 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.19. On the mound works form a high ¾ arm angle with a long, quick arm action. Slight drop and drive delivery with a high leg kick and good explosion in the core. Got good extension on his fastball that sat 85-87 mph. Curveball showed 10-4 shape at 65-68 mph for strikes. Maintained armspeed on changeup at 69-73 mph.

Top 2018 Prospects

1. Alex Binelas, 3B, Oak Creek, 2018
Louisville commit. Currently ranked No. 2 in the Wisconsin Class of 2018. 6-foot-2, 200-pound left-handed hitting third baseman. Offensively hits from a tall setup with a short stride and good balance. Gap to gap power hitter with a short path and extension thru contact. Fluid rhythm with explosive batspeed. Showed strength thru contact with 96 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.02. Defensively has a long arm action from a high ¾ arm slot. Throws showed carry across the infield, throwing 84 mph. Solid actions with average hands.

2. Dawson Demant, SS< Union Grove, 2018
Northern Illinois commit. Currently ranked No. 5 in the Wisconsin Class of 2018. Defensively has a loose arm action from a high ¾ slot. Accurate throws with carry, threw 80 mph across the infield. Advanced actions, plays thru the ball with fluid footwork and soft hands. Showed good body control and ability to play on the run. Offensively hits form a wide base with a balanced setup. Short stride with good balance. Line drive gap to gap hitter with fluid rhythm and a short path. Compact mechanics with a fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 89 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.05.

3. Noah Berghammer, SS, Janesville Craig, 2018
Currently ranked No. 10 in the Wisconsin Class of 2018. 6-foot, 178-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. Defensively has a short, loose arm action from a high ¾ arm slot. Accurate throws with carry, throwing 84 mph across the infield. Athletic actions, plays thru the ball with quick, fluid footwork. Soft hands with a clean exchange. Offensively hits from an open stance with a quick leg kick trigger. Loose hands, flashed a fast bat. Line drive hitter with fluid rhythm. Showed strength thru contact with 84 mph exit velocity from a tee. Above average runner in the 60 running a 6.91.

4. Ryen Ryba, SS, Homestead, 2018
5-foot-11, 155-pound left-handed hitting shortstop. Offensively hits from an open stance with a short stop and good balance. Short, uphill path with fluid rhythm. Showed strength thru contact with 89 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.13. Defensively has a loose arm action form a high ¾ slot. Athletic actions with a clean exchange and average hands. Threw 77 mph across the infield.

5. Malik Peters, SS, Mount Carmel, 2018
6-foot-1, 155-pound right-handed hitting shortstop with a thin, lanky frame. Defensively has a loose arm action from a high ¾ slot. Plays thru the ball with soft hands and solid actions. Throws showed carry throwing 85 mph across the infield. Offensively hits from an open stance with a long stride and average balance. Short, level swing path with fluid rhythm. Loose hands with a fast bat. 77 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.28.

Top 2019 Prospects

1. Xavier Watson, SS, South Milwaukee, 2019
5-foot-10, 165-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. Defensively has a short, loose arm action from a high ¾ slot. Throws showed carry throwing 82 mph across the infield. Athletic actions playing thru the ball with fluid footwork and soft, sure hands. Showed good body control on run thru. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a smooth load and short stride. Loose, athletic swing with a fast bat. Short, level swing path with fluid rhythm and an advanced approach. 80 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.34. One of the top middle infield prospects in Wisconsin’s 2019 Class.

2. Dan Blomgren, SS, Janesville Craig, 2019
5-foot-10, 155-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ arm slot. Throws showed carry, throwing 81 mph across the infield. Plus actions and body control with soft hands. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a short stride and average balance. Line drive gap to gap hitter with fluid rhythm and a fast bat. Advanced approach at the plate. 82 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.29. One of the top middle infield prospects in Wisconsin’s 2019 Class.

3. Paul Toetz, 3B/RHP, Greendale, 2019
5-foot-10, 175-pound right-handed hitting 3B/RHP with an athletic frame. Defensively has a short, loose arm action from a high ¾ slot. Plays thru the ball with fluid footwork and soft hands. Threw 81 mph across the infield. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a short stride and average balance. Line drive hitter with a short path and fluid rhythm. Showed strength thru contact with 88 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.53. On the mound works from a a high ¾ arm angle with a short, quick arm action. Drop and drive delivery with smooth rhythm and an open toed landing. Fastball flashed running action at 78-80 mph. Curveball showed slurve action at 61-64 mph for strikes. Showed feel for his changeup with occasional sinking and fading action at 63-66 mph for strikes.

5-foot-8, 14-pound left-handed hitting second baseman. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a smooth load, short stride, and good balance. Line drive gap-to-gap hitter with fluid rhythm and a short, level swing path. 71 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.97. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ arm slot. Solid actions, with soft hands. Showed good body control on run thru. Threw 69 mph across the infield.

Adam Baade, RHP/SS, Brookfield Central, 2018
5-foot-10, 150-pound switch-hitting RHP/SS. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a long arm action. Drop and drive, slow paced delivery. Delivery works in line with home plate, open landing. Fastball showed running action at 69-72 mph. Curveball showed 11-5 shape at 57-60 mph. Changeup showed armside run at 62-65 mph. Knuckleball sat 53-57 mph. Offensively from the left side hits from a wide base with a high back elbow, 77 mph exit velocity from a tee. Right handed hit from a slightly open stance with an uphill path. 73 mph exit velocity form a tee. Defensively has a long arm action from a high ¾ slot. Long, slow exchange, fields the ball deep. Threw 70 mph from the outfield. Also took drills in the infield, plays on the run. Threw 65 mph from the outfield.

Pablo Baez, 1B, Reagan, 2017
6-foot-3, 258-pound right-handed hitting first baseman. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a short stride and fair balance. Power approach at the plate with a short, uphill swing path. Showed strength thru contact with 90 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 8.42. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ slot. Average arm strength with heavy footwork. Threw 77 mph across the infield.  

Jack Becker, SS, Arrowhead, 2017
6-foot-2, 188-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a slightly open stance. Short stride back to even with average balance. Short, uphill swing path. 82 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.29. Defensively projects for third base. Has a short arm action from an over the top arm slot with a long exchange. Threw 83 mph across the infield.

Alex Behr, LHP/1B, Oak Creek, 2017
6-foot-2, 200-pound left-handed hitting LHP/1B. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a long, quick arm action, High draw out of the glove. Tall and fall delivery with downhill shoulders at balance point. Fastball sat 75-77 topping out at 78 mph. Slider showed 2-8 shape at 64-67 mph for strikes. Changeup sat 67-69 mph. Defensively has  along arm action from a high ¾ slot. Showed solid footwork around the bag. Threw 76 mph across the infield. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a short stride and average balance. Pull hitter with a long, uphill path. Showed strength thru contact with 87 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.92. 

Kade Bohlman, 3B, Janesville Parker, 2018
5-foot-10, 185-pound right-handed hitting third baseman with a strong frame. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a short stride. Flat, level path thru the zone with a fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 85 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 8.07. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Plays thru the ball with average hands. Threw 75 mph across the infield.

Ian Boho, RHP/2B, Marquette University, 2017
5-foot-9, 140-pound right-handed hitting RHP/2B. On the mound works from a over the top arm angle with a short arm action and stab out of the glove. Tall and fall, online delivery with some effort. Momentum carries him down the mound after release. Fastball sat 71 topping out at 72 mph. Curveball sat 61-64 with no action. Changeup blended with fastball at 69-70 mph. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with heel tap stride. Uphill path with late rhythm. 68 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.74. Defensively has a long arm action with average hands. Threw 75 mph across the infield.

Jackson Brown, RHP/3B, Oconomowoc, 2018
6-foot-2, 165-pound right-handed hitting RHP/3B with a thin, lanky frame. On the mound works from a ¾ arm angle with a long, quick arm action. Tall and fall delivery with a closed landing. Fastball sat 80-82 topping out at 83 mph. Curveball showed 12-6 shape at 64-68 mph. Changeup sat 70-73 mph. Slider showed occasional sharp, late action at 68-74 mph. Alex David, SS, Johnson Creek, 2017

Stevie Diderrich, C/2B, Oconomowoc, 2018
5-foot-7, 150-pound multi-positional player, athletic shape and actions. Defensively showed athletic actions both on the infield and behind the plate. On the infield showed soft hands, ability to play through the baseball, good infield actions suitable for second base. Arm flashed carry, 79 mph across the diamond, 74 mph out of the crouch. Also showed soft hands receiving the baseball behind the plate, quick exchange. Posted 2.01-2.12 pop times. Ran a 7.71 in the 60. Offensively hits from a balanced stance, short stride, average balance. Aggressive swing, fast bat, line drive contact, 91 mph exit velocity from the tee.

Bryce Edwards, 2B, Westosha Central, 2017
6-foot-2, 160-pound right-handed hitting second baseman with a lanky frame. Defensively has a loose arm action from a high ¾ slot. Plays thru the ball with average hands. Brandon Hafemann, 2B, Marquette University, 2017

Showed good body control on the run thru. Threw 73 mph across the infield. Offensively hits from a balanced setup, slightly open stance with a short stride and average balance. Wyatt Hennessey, 2B, Mukwonago, 2019
5-foot-6, 140-pound left-handed hitting second baseman. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ slot. Average hands with some actions. Threw 64 mph across the infield. Offensively hits from a balanced setup, drops and bars on load. Short stride with average balance. Long, uphill swing path. 74 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 8.26.

Sean Hogan, 2B, Jefferson, 2018
5-foot-11, 142-pound left-handed hitting second baseman with a lanky frame. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a leg kick stride and average balance. 73 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 8.19. Defensively has a long arm action from a high ¾ slot with slower actions. Threw 67 mph across the infield. Will continue to improve with maturity.

Caleb Horvath, SS/C/RHP, Grafton, 2017
5-foot-4, 125-pound multi-positional player. Offensively hits from an open stance, short stride, average balance. Line drive type hitter, average bat speed, 72 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively showed best projection on the infield, flashed proper actions. Arm played at 75 mph across the diamond, 71 mph out of the crouch. Posted pop times at 2.19-2.29. Ran a 7.64 in the 60. Balanced, tall and fall delivery on the mound, little effort, upright finish. Arm action is short, high ¾ slot. Fastball sat 71-73 mph, touched 74 mph. Curveball played on 11/5 plane, occasional 12/6, 64-66 mph. Changeup is 67-69 mph.

Jacob Johnson, RHP/1B, Arrowhead, 2018
6-foot, 178-pound right-handed hitting RHP/1B. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a long arm action. Tall and fall, slow paced delivery with a closed landing and easy effort. Fastball sat 76-77 topping out at 78 mph. Curveball showed 11-5 shape at 66-67 mph. Changeup sat 69-71 mph. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top arm angle. Throws showed carry, throwing 79 mph across the infield. Slower actions with average hands. Offensively hits from a balanced setup, hands load to backside, short leg lift stride with average balance. 6-foot, 239-pound right-handed hitting first baseman. Offensively hits from a balanced setup, closes off on stride. Pull hitter with average batspeed. Showed strength thru contact with 89 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.72. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ arm slot with average hands. Threw 73 mph across the infield.

Nolan Kelliher, SS, Middleton, 2018
5-foot-11, 160-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. Defensively has a short, athletic arm action from a high ¾ slot. Plays thru the ball with average hands. Threw 77 mph across the infield. Offensively hits from a balanced, slightly open stance, closes off on stride. Short, uphill swing path. Showed strength thru contact with 84 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.43.

Griffin Klein, 2B, Indian Trail, 2017
Currently ranked No. 54 in the Wisconsin Class of 2017. 5-foot-9, 160-pound right-handed hitting second baseman, added strength to his frame this offseason. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ slot. Athletic actions, playing thru the ball with soft hands. Throws showed carry at 80 mph across the infield. Zachary Lutz, LHP/1B, Hartford Union, 2018

Slightly closed landing with an athletic finish. Fastball showed running and sinking action at 74-76 mph. Curveball showed 1-7 shape at 61-62 mph. Changeup sat 65-68 mph. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ slot. Threw 71 mph across the infield. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a short stride and fair balance. Short swing path.
