Madison Rising Stars ID: Takeaways & Statistical Analysis
March 17, 2023
On March 11th, the PBR Wisconsin traveled to GRB Academy in Windsor, Wis., to host the annual Madison Rising Stars ID. This event featured prospects from the 2027 and 2028 graduating classes and has consistently provided our staff with the names of players to consider inviting to the PBR Junior Future Games where they’ll represent Team Wisconsin at LakePoint Sports in Emerson, GA., at the end of the summer.
Now, at the event's conclusion, our staff will begin to compile some of our takeaways from this event while also hitting on some of the day's stat leaders. Below you'll find which players popped to our scouts, as well as which prospects headlined our respective statistical categories.
TAKEAWAYS
+ One of the top performances of the day came from RHP/1B Dylan Schreiber (Waukesha West, 2027). Schreiber, who already stands at an eye-popping 6-foot-4, 160-pounds, started his day off with one of the top rounds of BP, where the left-handed hitter sets up narrow with relaxed hands, before delivering a whippy barrel to backspin the baseball up the middle of the field. Schreiber registered some of the day's best batted ball numbers as he averaged an exit velocity of 81.1 mph, with his highest being 85.5 mph. On the mound is where Schreiber really projects, and despite his extra-long limbs, coupled with his young age, he syncs them up surprisingly well to deliver fastballs in the 79-80 mph range, with his highest being 80.7 mph. As for his offspeeds he featured a 10/4 breaking ball with depth, and a changeup that played with some heavy run to his arm-side.
+ OF/LHP Mason Horn (Muskego, 2027) is an athletic young prospect to note following Saturday’s showcase. Offensively, Horn features some fluid hands through the zone with a feel to hit that should add more pop as he continues to develop. On the mound his athletic movements and repeatable delivery point to a velocity jump in the future.
+ 3B/RHP Danny Flor (Oconomowoc, 2027) is a 5-foot-8, 140-pound two-way prospect who caught our staff’s attention in Windsor. Offensively, Flor creates easy bat speed and registered an average exit velocity of 72.9 mph, with his highest leaving the barrel at 80.1 mph. Defensively, Flor is an athletic and clean mover, showing no problem moving side-to-side, and he pairs this with an arm that topped at 75 mph. Flor wrapped up his day with a solid ‘pen in which he topped at 77 mph from an athletic and repeatable delivery. He also flashed feel for a true slider, and was able to throw in a changeup with late fade/depth for strikes.
+ SS/RHP Tyson Williams (Hononegah, IL, 2027) is another name who put together a solid two-way performance on Saturday. Offensively, Williams sets up with rhythm in the right-handed batters box, and utilizes a short, direct swing path to lift the ball to his middle and pull-side. During his round, Williams registered the hardest hit ball of the entire event at 86.1 mph, and he also averaged 75.1 mph as well. Defensively, Williams is a fluid mover on the infield and he pairs it with an arm that topped at 79 mph across the diamond, a noteworthy number for his age. Williams rounded off his day with a solid overall ‘pen where he topped at 77.2 mph with his fastball, coupling it with a 10/4 slider and a heavy running changeup. He is also a 7.05 runner in the 60, too.
+ OF Chace Staude (Kettle Moraine, 2027) is an athletic infield prospect who showed well during our first day in Windsor. Standing at a projectable 5-foot-10, 140-pounds Staude recorded a max exit velocity of 82.7 mph, and an average of 77.4 mph from a smooth left-handed swing. While in the outfield, Staude is an athletic mover and works through the ball on his throws home to deliver 80 mph bullets from a loose arm.
+ C Ethan Miller (Slinger, 2027) is a 5-foot-10, 175-pound backstop who came away a winner from Saturday. During his round of BP, Miller uses his strength to create exit velocities in the low-80s. Miller really impressed behind the plate as he is an advanced defender for his age and he recorded pop times as low as 2.26.
+ INF Ethan Orlando (Bay Port, 2027) is a projectable 5-foot-11, 150-pound prospect that showed well on Saturday. In the right hand batters box Orlando features an easy, simple swing that projects and he recorded a max exit velocity of 81.5 mph.
+ RHP/OF Connor Kletsch (Watertown, 2027) is a projectable arm to note following Saturday’s event. During his ‘pen the righty ran his fastball up to 76.5 mph and sat in the 75-76 mph range throughout. With his young age Kletsch is understandably developing a full arsenal, but he did flash feel for both a short 11/5 breaking ball and a changeup with occasional arm-side run.
+ INF/RHP Will Nikolay (De Pere, 2027) is a 5-foot-7, 145-pound prospect who started his day off by showing burst and athleticism when he ran a solid 7.43 second 60 yard dash. Next, Nikolay hits with a smooth right handed stroke who continually barrelled up baseball through the middle of the field. He displayed smoothness to his actions in the infield portion of the event. Finally, on the mound, he topped out at 74 mph from a ¾ slot and a quick arm. His curveball shows potential for a swing and miss weapon and has a developing changeup.
+ SS/RHP Maxwell Webb (Port Washington, 2028) showed out well as a two way prospect on Saturday. Webb’s 5-foot-8, 125 pound frame is projectable and shows plenty of room to add size and strength. He showcased a smooth right-handed swing with feel to stay on the barrel throughout his round in BP. He also displayed soft hands during defense with the ability to move well laterally. On the mound, Webb got up to 71 mph and projects for more velocity in the future with a loose and quick arm. He also threw a curveball with 11/5 break and shape which landed for strikes. Finally, his downer-type change up thrown with intent has the potential to be a weapon in the future.
+ SS Kallen Magli (De Forest Area, 2028) is listed at a projectable 5-foot-6, with sloped shoulders and good proportions. Magli displayed solid athleticism after running a 7.46 second 60 yard dash which was best among the 2028 crop. This twitchy mover’s athleticism translated during defensive work showing quickness laterally. Additionally, Magil showed softness to his hands and an accurate arm on his throws to the first baseman. Finally, his bat speed and barrel control was on display during the hitting portion of the event when he continually hit line drives through the middle of the field.
