Fox Cities Preseason ID: Outfield Analysis

Today we continue to roll out analysis from the Fox Cities Preseason ID Showcase with the outfield prospects.

2017 Zachary Nogalski takes the top spot among the outfielders after a big performance throwing 94 mph form the outfield and running a 6.86 60 yard dash.

2017 Jarrett Scheelk showed off arm strength throwing 88 mph from the outfield and took a solid round of bating practice. 2018 utility player Pierce Blohowiak showed best in the outfield with 85 mph arm strength and athletic actions. 2019 Sean Sanchez makes the list having the second best exit velocity at 96 mph and threw 80 mph from the outfield.

Let’s take a look at the top outfield prospects.

Top Prospects

1. Zachary Nogalski, OF, Marquette University, 2017
6-foot-2, 185-pound right-handed hitting outfielder with a strong, athletic frame. Currently ranked No .34 in the Wisconsin class of 2017. Defensively has a long arm action form an over the top arm slot. Some accuracy with carry on throws. Had an event best 94 mph velocity from the outfield. Plays thru the ball with athletic actions and quick footwork. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a short leg lift stride and good balance. Pull hitter with a short, uphill path and a fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 91 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 6.86.

2. Jarrett Scheelk, OF/RHP, Green Bay Preble, 2017
6-foot-1, 170-pound right-handed hitting OF/RHP with a lanky, athletic frame. Currently ranked No. 48 in Wisconsin class of 2017. Defensively has a long, loose arm action from a high ¾ slot. Throws showed carry with some running action form the outfield. Plays thru the ball. Threw 88 mph from the outfield. Offensively hits from an open stance with a low hand set. Smooth load with good balance. Line drive gap to gap hitter with a short, fast path and fluid rhythm. Showed strength thru contact with 89 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.09. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a long arm action. Tall at balance point, drop and drive delivery working in line with home plate. Square landing with an athletic finish. Fastball showed occasional running action at 82-83 mph. Curveball has 12-6 shape at 67-68 mph. Changeup sat 75-77 mph.

3. Pierce Blohowiak, C/OF, Xavier, 2018
5-foot-11, 165-pound right-handed hitting utility player with an athletic frame. Currently ranked No. 34 in the Wisconsin Class of 2018. Defensively took drills in the infield, outfield, and behind the plate. Showed best in the outfield where he has a short arm action from an over the top arm slot. Plays thru the ball with a quick exchange. Threw 85 mph from the outfield. In the infield showed solid footwork with average hands. Threw 77 mph across the diamond. Behind the plate showed good blocking skills with a quick release. Popped 2.05-2.12 and threw 70 mph from the crouch. Showed soft hands receiving in bullpens. Offensively hits from a wide base with a short stride and good balance. Loose swing with fluid rhythm and a fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 87 mph exit velocity from a tee. Solid runner in the 60 at 6.90.

4. Jonah Landowski, LHP/OF, Oconomowoc, 2017
5-foot-10, 180-pound left-handed hitting LHP/OF with a strong, athletic frame. On the mound works from an over the top arm angle with a loose, quick arm action. Back turn at balance point with a tall and fall delivery, working in line with home plate. Four pitch mix for strikes. Fastball showed sinking action at 77-81 topping out at 82 mph. Curveball showed 12-6 shape at 66-68 mph. Maintained armspeed on changeup at 74-75 mph. Knuckleball sat 63-67 mph. In the outfield has a long arm action from an over the top slot. Plays thru the ball with athletic actions and fluid footwork. Accurate throws with carry at 87 mph form the outfield. Offensively hits from an open stance with a leg kick stride. Uphill path with a fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 85 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.38.

5. Zach Carney, OF, Kimberly, 2017
6-foot-2, 180-pound right-handed hitting outfielder with a lanky frame. Offensively hits from a tall, slightly open stance with a long stride back to even. Short level path with fluid rhythm. 82 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.08. Defensively has a long arm action from a high ¾ arm slot. Threw 82 mph from the outfield.

6. Sean Sanchez, OF, Greendale, 2019
5-foot-11, 185-pound right-handed hitting outfielder with a strong frame. Offensively hits from an open stance, drops hands on load with a leg kick stride. Short, level path. Showed strength thru contact with 96 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.31. Defensively has a long arm action form a high ¾ slot. Average arm strength with some accuracy. Plays thru the ball with average hands. Threw 80 mph from the outfield.

7. Grant Emme, OF, Kaukauna, 2018
5-foot-11, 155-pound right-handed hitting outfielder with a lanky, athletic frame. Showed off athleticism running an event best 6.70 60-yard dash. Offensively hits form a balanced setup with a short stride and average balance. Line drive gap to gap hitter with a short path and a fast bat. Showed strength thru contact at 86 mph from a tee. Defensively has a long arm action from a low ¾ slot. Plays thru the ball with quick footwork and average hands. Threw 80 mph from the outfield.

8. Jim Callahan, OF, Ashwaubenon, 2017
5-foot-11, 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a slight knee bend and low hand set. Short stride with a collapse on the backside. Long, uphill path with average batspeed. 81 mph exit velocity from a tee. Solid runner in the 60 at 7.05. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top arm angle. Showed off raw arm strength throwing 82 mph from the outfield with carry and some accuracy.

9. Parker Schuh, OF/RHP, Kimberly, 2017
5-foot-9, 160-pound right-handed hitting OF/RHP with a strong frame. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top arm slot. Online throws with carry and some accuracy. Threw 81 mph from the outfield. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a slightly open stance. Drops hands on load, stays close to body. Line drive gap to gap hitter with a short path. 77 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.28. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short arm action. Tall and fall, online delivery with a square landing and some rhythm. Fastball sat 77-80 mph. Curveball showed 11-5 shape at 65-67 mph. Changeup showed cutting action at 72-74 mph.

10. Ian Knuth, C/OF, Oconomowoc, 2019
5-foot-9, 140-pound right-handed hitting C/OF. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a short stride and average balance. Line drive hitter works gap to gap with a flat, level path thru the zone with looseness in the hands. Showed strength thru contact with 83 mph exit velocity from a tee. Solid runner in the 60 at 7.03. Defensively took drills in the outfield and behind the plate. In the outfield plays thru the ball with ok footwork. Short arm action from an over the top slot, high front side on throws. Threw 76 mph from the outfield. Behind the plate has a short arm action from an over the top slot, slow clean exchange. Popped 2.22-2.36 and threw 69 mph from the crouch.

5-foot-11, 150-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. Offensively hits from a tall, balanced setup with a short stride and average balance. Long, level, flat path. 79 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.41. Defensively has a long arm action from a high ¾ arm slot. Slower actions with a long exchange. Threw 70 mph from the outfield.

Parker Burch, C/OF, Madison Memorial, 2018
5-foot-10, 154-pound right-handed hitting C/OF. Offensively hits form a tall, open stance with a leg kick stride. Uphill path, doesn’t get cheated. Showed strength thru contact with 85 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.83. Defensively in the outfield has a short arm action from a high ¾ arm angle. Online actions with average hands. Threw 79 mph from the outfield. Behind the plate has a short arm action, sets up facing 1B. Popped 2.15-2.26 and threw 74 mph from the crouch.

Noah Berger, OF, Notre Dame, 2019
5-foot-8, 120-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. Defensively has a long arm action from a ¾ arm slot. Plays thru the ball with a full crow hop. Threw 67 mph from the outfield. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a leg kick stride and fair balance. Uphill path with average bat speed. 69 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 8.04.

Will Connors, OF/RHP, Waunakee, 2018
5-foot-11, 190-pound right-handed hitting OF/RHP. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a short stride. Uphill path with some stiffness in the hands. Showed strength thru contact with 83 mph exit velocity form a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.65. Defensively has a short arm action form an over the top slot. Long exchange, takes steps after fielding and before release. Threw 82 mph from the outfield. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short, quick arm action. Tall and fall delivery with a closed landing and crossfire action. Slide step from the stretch. Fastball sat 75-76 topping out at 77 mph. Curveball showed 11-5 shape at 64-66 mph. Changeup showed fading action at 70-74 mph.

Eli Davila, C/RHP, Oshkosh North, 2019
5-foot-6, 130-pound right-handed hitting C/RHP. Defensively took drills in the outfield as well as behind the plate. Showed best in the outfield with a long arm action from an over the top slot. Quick footwork playing thru the ball. Threw 81 mph from the outfield. Behind the plate has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Quick transfer and release, gains ground towards second base. Popped 2.00-2.12 and threw 73 mph from the crouch. Offensively hits from an open stance with a leg kick stride and average balance. Drops on load with an uphill path. 73 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.62. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short arm action. Tall and fall delivery with a square landing, occasionally gets closed. Threw fastball for strikes at 77 mph. Showed feel for his changeup with sinking action for strikes at 67-73 mph. Cutter showed slight action at 71-74 mph.

Nathaniel Elgin, RHP/OF, Badger, 2019
5-foot-11, 170-pound left-handed hitting RHP/OF. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a long arm action and high draw out of the glove. Tall and fall online delivery with a square landing. Fastball sat 67-70 topping out at 71 mph. Curveball showed 12-6 shape at 56-58 mph. Slowed arm on changeup at 60-61 mph. Offensively hits from a balanced, slightly open stance with fair balance. Uphill path. 82 mph exit velocity from a tee. Defensively has a long arm action from a high ¾ arm slot. Threw 74 mph from the outfield. Will continue to improve with maturity.

Jacob Fietz, OF, DePere, 2018
5-foot-11, 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. Offensively hits from a balanced, slightly closed setup. Short load to backside with a heel lift stride. Short level swing path. 73 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.64. Defensively has a short arm action from a ¾ arm slot. Plays thru the ball with slower actions. Threw 76 mph from the outfield.

Collin Kovnesky, LHP/OF, Mukwonago, 2019
5-foot-8, 140-pound left-handed hitting LHP/OF. On the mound works from an over the top arm angle with a short arm action. Tall and fall, slow paced delivery. Works in line with home plate and has a square landing. Fastball flashed sink at 69-70 mph. Curveball showed no action at 66-68 mph. Changeup flashed sink at 60-63 mph. Hits from a balanced setup with a smooth load and heel lift stride. Fluid rhythm with an uphill path. 80 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.32. Defensively has a long arm action from an over the top arm angle. Accurate throws with average arm strength. Threw 74 mph from the outfield. Plays thru the ball with average hands.

Tony Krueger, OF/C, Appleton North, 2018
5-foot-10, 155-pound left-handed hitting OF/C. Defensively took drills in the outfield and behind the plate, projects for the outfield. In the outfield plays fast with quick footwork and a clean exchange. Threw 81 mph from the outfield with carry. Behind the plate has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Popped 2.18-2.26 and threw 72 mph from the crouch. Offensively hits from a tall, open stance with a smooth load and good balance. Gap to gap hitter with a short, uphill path. 79 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.54. On the mound works from an over the top arm angle with a short arm action. Tall and fall online delivery with a square landing and athletic finish. Regular effort with some rhythm. Fastball sat 76-77 mph. Curveball has 11-5 shape with short break at 65-68 mph. Showed feel for changeup that has armside action at 69-71 mph.

Anthony Marquardt, LHP/OF, Oconto, 2018
5-foot-9, 189-pound right-handed hitting LHP/OF. On the mound works from a ¾ arm angle with a short arm action and no draw out of the glove. Tall and fall, cross fire delivery with a closed landing and some rhythm. Fastball showed running action at 72-73 topping out at 75 mph. Curveball showed slurve action at 58-60 mph. Maintained armspeed on changeup with sinking action at 66-68 mph. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a short leg lift stride. Opposite field line drive hitter with a level path. 81 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.87. Defensively has a short arm action from a ¾ arm slot. Threw 74 mph from the outfield.

David Popelka, LHP/OF, Xavier, 2018
5-foot-9, 155-pound right-handed hitting LHP/OF. On the mound works from an over the top arm angle with a short arm action. Tall and fall delivery with a square landing and some rhythm. Good balance throughout delivery. Threw fastball for strikes at 73-74 topping out at 77 mph. Curveball showed short breaking action at 67-69 mph. Changeup was straight at 69-71 mph. Defensively has a short, loose arm action from an over the top arm slot, uphill throws. Plays thru the ball with slower actions. Threw 76 mph from the outfield. Braedyn Quinnell, OF/SS, Adams-Friendship, 2019
5-foot-8, 165-pound right-handed hitting utility player. Offensively hits from a tall, balanced setup wit a long stride. Doesn’t always get thru the backside. Pull hitter with a level swing path. 81 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.64. Defensively took drills in the outfield and infield. Has a short arm action from a high ¾ arm slot. Threw 71 mph form the outfield and 65 mph across the diamond. On the mound works from an over the top arm angle with a short arm action. Tall and fall, online delivery with some rhythm. Threw three pitches for strikes. Worked downhill swith his fastball at 73-74 mph. Curveball showed 11-5 shape at 65-67 mph. Changeup flashed cutting action at 64-66 mph.

Joey Tadych, RHP/OF, Shawano, 2018
5-foot-10, 145-pound right-handed hitting RHP/OF. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a long arm action. Tall and fall slow paced slivery with a square landing. Fastball sat 72-73 mph. Curveball showed 10-4 shape at 65-67 mph. Threw changeup for strikes down in the zone at 68-69 mph. Defensively has a long arm action from a high ¾ arm slot. Showed off raw arm strength throwing 81 mph from the outfield. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a short stride and average balance. Opposite field line drive hitter with average batspeed. 82 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.20.

Austin Tlachac, OF, Luxemburg-Casco, 2018
5-foot-8, 165-pound left-handed hitting outfielder. Showed athleticism in the 60 running a 6.97. Offensively hits from a balanced, closed stance with a leg kick stride and average balance. Pull hitter with a short, uphill path. 82 mph exit velocity from a tee. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Accurate throws at 78 mph from the outfield.

Taylor Tschantz, OF, Kaukauna, 2019
5-foot-11, 160-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. Offensively hits from a crouched, open stance with a short stride and average balance.
