Fox Cities Preseason ID: Catching Analysis

We start the breakdown Fox Cities Preseason ID Showcase with the catchers.
No. 47 ranked 2017 Jayden Adrians had a solid day popping 2.11-2.26, throwing 76 mph from the crouch, and had the second best exit velocity at 96 mph.
2018 utility player Pierce Blohowiak showed soft hands receiving in pens and had the second best pop times at 2.05-2.12.
2019 Ian Knuth ran the 60 at 7.03 and showed a good approach at the plate with solid tools behind the plate.

6-foot-2, 210-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Currently ranked No. 47 in the Wisconsin 2017 Class. Offensively hits from an open stance with a long, leg kick stride and average balance. Doesn’t get cheated at the plate. Gap to gap hitter with some pop and a fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 96 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.59. Behind the plate has a short arm action form a high ¾ arm angle. Popped 2.11-2.26 and threw 76 mph from the crouch.
Trevor Benz, C, Nathan Hale, 2018
5-foot-9, 186-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a short, leg lift stride. Long, uphill path with average bat speed. 82 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.81. Defensively Has a short arm action form an over the top arm slot. Stand and throw. Popped 2.25-2.41 and threw 74 mph from the crouch.
Pierce Blohowiak, C/OF, Xavier, 2018
5-foot-11, 165-pound right-handed hitting utility player with an athletic frame. Currently ranked No. 34 in the Wisconsin Class of 2018. Defensively took drills in the infield, outfield, and behind the plate. Showed best in the outfield where he has a short arm action from an over the top arm slot. Plays thru the ball with a quick exchange. Threw 85 mph from the outfield. In the infield showed solid footwork with average hands. Threw 77 mph across the diamond. Behind the plate showed good blocking skills with a quick release. Popped 2.05-2.12 and threw 70 mph from the crouch. Showed soft hands receiving in bullpens. Offensively hits from a wide base with a short stride and good balance. Loose swing with fluid rhythm and a fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 87 mph exit velocity from a tee. Solid runner in the 60 at 6.90.
Parker Burch, C/OF, Madison Memorial, 2018
5-foot-10, 154-pound right-handed hitting C/OF. Offensively hits form a tall, open stance with a leg kick stride. Uphill path, doesn’t get cheated. Showed strength thru contact with 85 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.83. Defensively in the outfield has a short arm action from a high ¾ arm angle. Online actions with average hands. Threw 79 mph from the outfield. Behind the plate has a short arm action, sets up facing 1B. Popped 2.15-2.26 and threw 74 mph from the crouch.
Eli Davila, C/RHP, Oshkosh North, 2019
5-foot-6, 130-pound right-handed hitting C/RHP. Defensively took drills in the outfield as well as behind the plate. Showed best in the outfield with a long arm action from an over the top slot. Quick footwork playing thru the ball. Threw 81 mph from the outfield. Behind the plate has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Quick transfer and release, gains ground towards second base. Popped 2.00-2.12 and threw 73 mph from the crouch. Offensively hits from an open stance with a leg kick stride and average balance. Drops on load with an uphill path. 73 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.62. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short arm action. Tall and fall delivery with a square landing, occasionally gets closed. Threw fastball for strikes at 77 mph. Showed feel for his changeup with sinking action for strikes at 67-73 mph. Cutter showed slight action at 71-74 mph.
Jack Hanauer, C, Shawano, 2017
6-foot-2, 195-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ arm slot. Sets up on an angle in drills. Accurate throws form the crouch with good blocking ability. Popped 2.11-2.18 and threw 72 mph from the crouch. Offensively hits from a balanced, slightly open stance with an arm bar load. Average bat speed with a long, uphill swing path. 75 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.86.
Logan Heim, C, Bark River-Harris, 2018
5-foot-10, 168-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Offensively hits from a tall, narrow, open stance. Line drive hitter with a loose easy swing and a short path. Fluid rhythm, flashed a fast bat. 80 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.40. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top arm slot. Tall receiver in drills. Popped 2.11-2.22 and threw 74 mph from the crouch.
Ian Knuth, C/OF, Oconomowoc, 2019
5-foot-9, 140-pound right-handed hitting C/OF. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a short stride and average balance. Line drive hitter works gap to gap with a flat, level path thru the zone with looseness in the hands. Showed strength thru contact with 83 mph exit velocity from a tee. Solid runner in the 60 at 7.03. Defensively took drills in the outfield and behind the plate. In the outfield plays thru the ball with ok footwork. Short arm action from an over the top slot, high front side on throws. Threw 76 mph from the outfield. Behind the plate has a short arm action from an over the top slot, slow clean exchange. Popped 2.22-2.36 and threw 69 mph from the crouch.
Kolton Koch, C, Monona Grove, 2018
5-foot-5, 155-pound left-handed hitting catcher. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a deep load to the backside with fair balance. Line drive gap to gap hitter with a long, level swing path. 78 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.53. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top arm slot with a long exchange. Tall receiver didn’t get square in drills. Showed flexibility in the lower half receiving in bullpens. Popped 2.33-2.44 and threw 69 mph from the crouch.
Tony Krueger, OF/C, Appleton North, 2018
5-foot-10, 155-pound left-handed hitting OF/C. Defensively took drills in the outfield and behind the plate, projects for the outfield. In the outfield plays fast with quick footwork and a clean exchange. Threw 81 mph from the outfield with carry. Behind the plate has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Popped 2.18-2.26 and threw 72 mph from the crouch. Offensively hits from a tall, open stance with a smooth load and good balance. Gap to gap hitter with a short, uphill path. 79 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.54. On the mound works from an over the top arm angle with a short arm action. Tall and fall online delivery with a square landing and athletic finish. Regular effort with some rhythm. Fastball sat 76-77 mph. Curveball has 11-5 shape with short break at 65-68 mph. Showed feel for changeup that has armside action at 69-71 mph.
Sean Meyer, C, Oconomowoc, 2017
5-foot-11, 170-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ arm angle with average hands. Popped 2.19-2.34 and threw 76 mph from the crouch. Offensively hits form a balanced stance with a short heel lift stride. Hits off backside with an uphill swing path. 81 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.37.
Leighton Myers, C/RHP, Little Chute, 2017
6-foot-2, 180-pound right-handed hitting C/RHP. Offensively hits from a tall, open stance with a short stride back to even. Flashed a fast bat with an uphill path. Showed strength thru contact with 86 mph exit velocity form a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.49. Defensively has a long arm action from an over the top arm slot. Gains ground towards second base. Popped 2.12-2.22 and threw 75 mph from the crouch. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a stab on the backside. Tall and fall delivery with a closed landing and crossfire action. Slide step from the stretch. Fastball sat 73-75 topping out at 77 mph. Curveball showed 12-6 shape at 64-66 mph. Slider flashed lateral action at 67-68 mph. Changeup sat 72-73 mph.
