Junior Future Games - Stats Release & Game Recap

Lake Point, GA - On Wednesday night, we kicked off the first day of the 2020 Prep Baseball Report Junior Future Games. Every summer, the Junior Future Games brings together 13u and 14u players from across our 35+ state coverage to compete in a tournament setting at Lake Point in Georgia. 

The event starts with a workout that allows players to showcase their ability early on. After that, the games get started up.

Friday was the second day of game action for the 2024 and 2025 grads from Washington and Oregon who are members of team Pacific Northwest.

Junior Future Games

Game 3

Game 3 of the Junior Future Games was a strong offensive effort from the squad as they pushed across 6 runs while being challenged by a strong Alabama squad. On the mound, the pitchers collectively had some command issues as they continued to adjust to the long days in the sun. 

‘24 1B/LHP Jack Turnquist (Oregon City, OR) got the start on the mound and battled thru his inning of work. At his best, he can run the FB up to 78 and sits mostly 74-77. When his large frame syncs up, the ball comes out of hand easy and he finds a way to miss bats in the zone. Also features a sweeping breaking ball at 64-66 mph. ‘24 1B/RHP Brady Ackerman (Canby, OR) came on in relief and pitched 2 solid innings. Ackerman worked quick and trusted his defense to make plays behind him throughout. He also continued to have quality ABs and ripped a pull-side hit in his last plate appearance of the day. 

After that, we got our first look at '25 Xavier Neyens (Conway Middle, WA) on the bump. The advanced youngster showed off sound pitching actions with a loose, easy arm path. Repeats his delivery well and keeps the same consistent tempo throughout. FB was up to 77 and he pitches with sustainable effort. He also knocked multiple hits on the day and continued to attack strikes while taking pitches outside of the zone. 

'25 INF/RHP Cesar Gonzalez (Jesuit, OR) finished out the game and continued to show his competitive attitude while pitching for the first time. Throwing from a lower slot, he gets some run/sink on his FB while mixing it with a lateral shape breaker that he can land for strikes. 

Offensively, ‘24 Lane Simonsen (Lynden, WA), ‘24 Luke Klooster (O’Dea, WA), ‘24 Luke Chaney (Union, WA) and ‘24 Grady Woodward (Eastlake, WA) continued their offensive ways and paced the line-up with consistent hard contact.'25 OF/LHP Calvin Gregory (Lakeridge, OR) also got involved notching his first hit of the event and putting solid contact on the ball.  

Game 4

The Pacific Northwest finished up the trip with a match-up against Tennessee. Continuing his aggressive, energetic ways, ‘24 Luke Klooster (O’Dea, WA) came out attacking with FBs at 80-81 and topped at 82. Pairs it with a firm cutter that has some lateral action to it at 74-76. The arm strength we’ve seen at C and OF translates well to the mound, giving him consistent feel for the strike zone. Overall, the performance on the mound capped an impressive week of baseball for Klooster. 

We also got our first look at '25 1B/RHP Sinjon Lash (Anacortes). Lash has quality size and a durable frame for the mound. His arm path is long and clean, without any pause or segmentation. He has a soft landing at foot strike and controls his momentum throughout. FB has jumped in velo since we saw him last winter as he’s up to 77 now while sitting mostly 74-76. Pairs the FB with an 11/5 shaped breaker in the low-mid 60s. 

Offensively, ‘25 INF/RHP Connor Udland (Aloha, OR) and '25 OF Braden Bartholomae (Skyline, WA) finished strong and collected hits in their final ABs of the week. They were both consistent offensive threats throughout the event and showed quality approaches while facing off against significantly older competition. 

‘24 Luke Chaney (Union, WA) had the loudest AB of the day with a big RBI double to his pull-side gap. Chaney bounced around on defense a lot between the INF and OF, showing impressive versatility for his age and projects to be a strong defender wherever he ends up long-term. The aggressiveness at the plate steadily improved throughout the event and you could see him gaining confidence and momentum in each AB. 

‘24 OF/LHP Jacob Bishop (Jesuit) was also finally rewarded for his quality approach and grabbed his first hit of the day after busting it down the line for a hustle single. Earlier in Game 3 he found some hard contact but ran into some defenders each time he put the ball in play.
