With the updated Virginia/DC 2023 rankings being released last week, we wanted to dive into some risers inside the Top 100 of our expanded rankings. Here we break down eleven players from across the Commonwealth.

Top 100 Risers:

Blake Dickerson LHP / Salem (Beach), VA / 2023

Dickerson did not make a huge jump, but up three spots from #10 to #7 is significant at the top end of the rankings. Dickerson was up to 91 mph in March of his sophomore year, but more importantly he oozes pitchability. Some deception to the delivery and three pitches with both secondary pitches having a chance to be legitimate secondary offerings down the road. The 6-foot-6 left hander has an extremely high ceiling and it will be exciting to see him develop as the body continues to mature.

Brayden Martin SS / 3B / St. Johns College HS (DC), VA / 2023

Up eight spots from #31 to #23, Martin has an athletic 5-foot-10 frame. Active defender up the middle with lateral range and an above average accurate arm across the infield. One of the biggest assets for Martin that we saw this summer is the hit tool. Left handed hitter that possesses ability to hit for high average and advanced feel for the barrel. Low swing and miss rate, uses the whole field, and present doubles power to both gaps.

Wade Haney OF / RHP / Clover Hill, VA / 2023

Haney has a long projectable 6-foot-3 frame with projection left to it. At the plate displays a flat path to contact and line drive tendency to the swing. Had a few hits in limited at bats a few weeks ago in the Spring League. Where Haney has really made an impression is on the mound. Low effort delivery with a loose three-quarter arm. Arm speed through release and comes out well. Breaking ball has above average raw spin with 12/6 shape and Haney has the ability to land it for strikes. Haney moved up to #42 from #50.

Ben Winslow OF / RHP / Western Albemarle, VA / 2023

Winslow has a physical 6-foot-3 frame with projection left to it. The right hander has continued to make strides on the mound, as we saw him in October and then again this winter where he added some velocity and feel for secondary. The delivery has some late effort and intent, otherwise a loose clean arm from a three-quarter slot. The fastball was up to 86 this winter and landed the CB/SL combo for better than 50% strikes. Intriguing arm that has some starter feel and a high ceiling as he continues to grow into the frame. Winslow is up nineteen spots to #43.

Dean Winters LHP / OF / Patriot, VA / 2023

The 6-foot athletic frame LHP/OF made an early impression this winter at the Preseason All State East. Short quick path to contact at the plate with gap to gap approach. On the mound Winters utilized a quick three-quarter arm circle and a lower half that worked really well. He showed a fastball that was up to 85 mph and worked downhill at the bottom of the zone. Threw the breaking ball for strikes 75% of the time with 1/7 shape. Winters moved up seventeen spots to #49.

Zach Danielczyk RHP / 1B / Oakton, VA / 2023

We have followed Danielczyk for quite some time and knew it was just a matter of time before the velocity made a jump. The then #57 player in the '23 class has moved up to #50 after a strong showing this winter. Feel for three pitches on the mound and a fastball that was up to 86 mph with riding life through the zone. The curveball has 12/6 shape with depth while the changeup flashed late arm side fade and present arm speed.

Garrett Mason OF / RHP / Mills E. Godwin , VA / 2023

Mason is one of our biggest risers, up from #88 to #56. The 6-foot-4 right handed arm has added some lean strength to the frame. Normal effort delivery and a loose three-quarter arm. The fastball has some life through the zone and got up to 84 a few times late this winter. Mason's slider had 11/5 shape and average feel for the zone, while he displayed the ability to land the changeup fairly consistently for strikes. The frame and the way the arm works makes you believe there is more velocity there as he continues to add strength and fill out the frame.

Conner Spears C / 1B / Thomas Dale, VA / 2023

Up thirteen spots from #70 is the 6-foot-3 sophomore. Has added arm strength and physicality to an already strong athletic frame. Loft built into a swing that extends through contact and shows power potential to all fields with more present to the pull side. Will be an intriguing follow into this spring and summer to see how consistently the physical tools can produce.

Micah Canterbury C / 1B / Buffalo Gap, VA / 2023

Canterbury has a solid 6-foot-2 makeup with strength present throughout the frame. Above average hand speed, a very quick bat through the zone, and the strength in his actions make him a potential long term middle of the order guy. Loud BP this winter with a simple direct path to contact. Some pull side tendency to the swing with power present to that side. Above average arm strength behind the plate and strong hands receiving.

Seth Buchanan SS / 2B / Lebanon, VA / 2023

Our biggest riser was the middle infielder out of Lebanon HS. Buchanan moved over thirty spots from #113 to #75 after his performance at the Preseason All-State Central. The hands work defensively, actions are present, and accurate arm across with above average arm strength. At the plate it was consistent barrels and worked gap to gap in approach. It was a fairly easy repeatable swing with loud contact throughout his rounds.

Charlie Felmlee C / 1B / Virginia Episcopal, VA / 2023

Climbing over fifteen spots to #78 is the strong 5-foot-11 framed catcher out of Virginia Episcopal. During pop times Felmlee was very accurate around the bag. It was a clean exchange with average/above average arm strength. The physicality at the plate is intriguing. Slight uphill path, above average hand speed, and above average bat speed with some power present to the pull side and more to come as he adds strength to an already solid frame.
