Gonzaga

Jacob Gupton SS / OF / Gonzaga, VA / 2023

Athletic frame and high end run tool. Laid down a perfect drag early in the game where he turned out a 3.93 home to first time. At the plate it is a level path swing with above average hand speed and has the ability to use the whole field. Contact bat with some doubles power and a little bit more to the pullside. Defensively, Gupton is an active defender. Solid angles of approach, short arm swing, and can throw from multiple slots. Right now is more second base profile, but has the range to play short long term if arm strength increases. 

 

 

 

Henry Hultquist RHP / OF / Gonzaga, VA / 2022

6-foot-2 evenly proportioned frame. Long arm swing and works from a lower three-quarter slot. Mainly fastball mix throughout his outing and did not show the slider that we have seen in the past. Hultquist sat 84-87 mph and touched 88 mph during his first two innings of relief. He moved the fastball in and out and induced weak contact, moving fairly easily through the lineup multiple times. Because of his extended relief performance, he was a big part of Gonzaga's championship day.

 

 

 

Marcus LeClair 1B / LHP / Gonzaga, VA / 2023

 

 

 

Ethan Van Sice RHP / 3B / Gonzaga, VA / 2023

Athletic 5-foot-9 frame. Really liked Van Sice on the mound when I saw him in a workout last year and he has made a really nice jump in the velo department. Works with some pace and intent. Lands closed and falls off of the front side a little bit. Short arm action, three-quarter slot, and really quick arm speed. Pretty much exclusively fastballs working in the 84-88 range and touched 89-90 one time a piece. Struggled some with command in the second and part of that I think is a result of the arm getting up a little late. He missed mostly up and to the arm side, but did get some swings and misses in the upper portion of the zone with his riding fastball. Threw one breaking ball at 74 mph. He had a huge day at the plate for Gonzaga, hitting a solo homerun out of center field in the second and another hit later on in the game. Intriguing uncommitted 2023 to keep an eye on.  

 

 

 

Joseph Zorc SS / C / Gonzaga College , VA / 2024

6-foot frame. Athleticism in actions and strength present, especially in the upper half. Solid defender at third. Lateral quickness and an accurate arm across. At the plate the stance starts square, coils closed on load, and hands stay high and tight. Front foot steps out on stride and a level path that is quick in and out of the zone. Had a couple of hits on the day and showed some pull side tendency to the swing. 

 

 

 

St. John's College

Clayton Armah SS / RHP / St. John's College, VA / 2025

Long thin 6-foot-4 frame. Long levers, high waist, and plenty of projection left to the frame. Starts upright and gets into backside with slightly elevated hips and shoulders. Full loose arm action and works from a three-quarter arm slot. The fastball was pretty consistent at 83-84 mph early in his relief work and touched 86 once. The slider was 69-72 mph with varying shape. Flashed a couple of sliders in the 71-72 mph range that had 11/5 shape and late depth, getting a couple of swings and misses in the process. Is going to be a '25 to keep eyes on, as he will continue to progress with added strength to his projectable frame. 

 

 

 

Colin Gibbs SS / St. Johns , VA / 2024

 

 

 

Sean Harmon RHP / OF / St. John's College, VA / 2023

Direct delivery, slight drop and drive, and lands slightly closed falling off to the first base side. Hand stabs down on break, full arm action, and works from a three-quarter arm slot. The fastball sat 80-83 mph during his short work on Sunday. The fastball worked mainly to the glove side, working away from the right handed hitters of Gonzaga. The breaking ball was a bit slower at 65-67 mph with gradual 11/5 shape. 

 

 

 

Brayden Martin SS / 3B / St. Johns College HS (DC), VA / 2023

 

 

 

Marcus Martin SS / RHP / St. John's College, VA / 2024

5-foot-10, 165-pound athletic frame. Martin really jumped out on the mound on Sunday. Hands stay low, break to full arm action, and works from a really low three-quarter to almost side arm slot. Lands closed by a good margin and has some crossfire to the fastball when working to the glove side. The fastball varied in velo and action. Showed what appeared to be a four seamer that sat at 84-87 mph and used it to both sides of the plate. Also, showed a two seamer where the velo dropped a bit, but got significantly more action on the arm side while sitting 81-83 mph. Did not show a breaking ball, but did turn over a couple of changeups that were above average secondary pitches with arm speed and late arm side fade at 78-80 mph. 

In addition to the good day on the mound, I really liked Martin's pregame infield. Hands worked, short arm action, and had probably the strongest arm in the infield. Ran a 6.84 60 last summer, so I think he has the arm strength and foot speed to stay on the left side and potentially up the middle.
