Tuesday night saw the resumption of Potomac District play as #12 Riverside hosted a Stone Bridge team that was off to a hot start and coming in on a three-game winning streak. Both teams were coming off of break and tabbed their top arms to start the game with Stone Bridge going with senior righty Michael Hafer and Riverside going with junior lefty Kyle Johnson (Duke).
Stone Bridge jumped out in the first inning when a Kyle Carpe two-out single led to a run after a Johnson throwing error on a pickoff attempt moved Carpe into scoring position. Johnson ended the threat there. Riverside picked up two runs in the bottom of the second after a single, error, and a sacrifice put two in scoring position, and then both runners scored on a wild pitch and a throwing error to give Riverside a 2-1 lead.
The game was a pitcher's duel through three and a half innings, with Johnson settling in after ending a few Stone Bridge threats early and Hafer using his two breaking balls effectively to keep Riverside hitters off balance. Hafer had 6 strikeouts through 3 innings and Johnson was at 8 through 4. Riverside would break the game open with a four run fourth, with Tim Siegel delivering an RBI single and the big blow coming from John Dell'Anno with a 2 RBI single. Dell'Anno would add an RBI 2B later in the game as Riverside ultimately won by a final of 9-1.
Johnson's final line was 4.2 innings, 1 run, 9 strikeouts against just 2 BB and 2 hits. Steven Trone (Old Dominion) slammed the door in relief, going the final 2.1 hitless, scoreless innings with 6 strikeouts. Dell'Anno went 2-4 with a 2B and 3 RBI and Siegel also was 2-3 with an RBI in the win.
Hafer's final line didn't look great but he was outstanding for the first three innings in taking the loss. Carpe went 1-2 with a BB and a run and Chandler Valbak was also 1-3.

Kyle Johnson OF / LHP / Riverside, VA / 2023Johnson is a Duke commit. Athletic frame with strength present and some projection left to it. Drop and drive delivery with some crossfire to it as well, lands closed with an athletic finish and some recoil to his arm. Hides ball behind his body and creates some deception in his delivery. Throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a short very quick loose arm action and easier effort. Fastball was 87-89 touching 90 early and was still holding that in the fourth with a slight tick higher, 88-90, touching 91 twice. Pitch gets some late hard two plane movement to it that plays up when he throws it to glove side, also creates some downward angle. Curveball has good arm action and shows some shape with power 2/8 break to it. Showed the ability to throw for strikes and bury to righties and lefties, including backfooting righthanders. Got swing and misses with both pitches but most came off the breaking ball. Threw two change-ups that had some armspeed at 75-76 with heavy heavy fading action to it. Showed control of all of his pitches and the ability to work effectively in the strike zone and to both sides of the plate. I wouldn't call it command yet but he's getting close to that, its possible on a day that isn't cold and windy he would show command. Only two or three well-hit balls off of him and struck out 9 in 4.2 innings with 2 walks and a hit by pitch and just two hits. Still plenty of upside as a prospect and is an athlete as well, showing a swing that can play at the next level as well as speed and athleticism running the bases.

Cavan McMeans SS / 2B / Riverside , VA / 2023McMeans is a College of Charleston commit and has an athletic frame that has some projection left. At short, fields with a wider base and quick soft hands. Very quick exchange as he works through to his release. Sidearm slot with a short arm action and average arm strength. Gives up some strength to speed up his release, arm action is loose. Shows lateral quickness and a good rhythm in game.

Timothy Siegel C / RHP / Riverside , VA / 2023

Steven Trone RHP / 3B / Riverside, VA / 2022Trone is an Old Dominion commit and has a lanky frame with a lot of projection and room to add strength left to it. He is a submariner that is about 9 into his time dropping down. Hinges slightly at the waist and strides closed before landing on line with an athletic finish. Long loose arm action with some quickness to it, slot isn't knuckle dragging but is a tick or two below sidearm. Uses a three pitch mix. Fastball was 77-78 with heavy sink and run to it. Showed a change-up that was 64 that the bottom fell out of, almost forkball level sink. Best pitch was easily his slider which he threw with good armspeed at 70-71 with hard sweeping action that also gets a bit of depth to it. Was dominant in his outing, pounding the zone and getting swing and misses. Struck out 6 in 2.1 innings of hitless work.
