Wednesday night saw a perfect night for baseball as the 2022 regular season is approaching its end in Northern Virginia. A rare late-season non-District game afforded both teams the opportunity to cycle through some players, and both went outside of their normal rotation for the start, with Heritage sending out junior Colin Shue for the start and Woodgrove going with junior Jack Moriarty.
Shue was outstanding, going six innings and allowing just 1 hit. Woodgrove did a bullpen game and kept the game tight through four until the Pride put up a five spot in the fifth to blow the game open en route to a 6-0 win. Shue finished the game with 7 strikeouts in his six innings and also went 2-3 with a 2B and a BB at the plate. Ryan Harrison was also 1-3 with a 3B, BB, and 2 RBI in the win.

Colin Shue C / RHP / Heritage (Leesburg), VA / 2023Shue has an athletic frame that has some strength present and projection left to it. At the plate, hits from the right side from a slightly open balanced athletic stance, short stride and load, simple set up. Hands stay inside, short to ball, quick to contact with some batspeed, slightly uphill to contact with a high finish that generates some carry. Showed good approach using whole field, gap power to more power is present to pull side with a chance to grow into more. On the mound, drop and drive delivery, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, short arm action, loose quick arm action. Some effort to delivery. Fastball was 83-87 on the day. Sat 87 in the first, settled into 83-85 for the rest of the game, mostly working at 85. Fastball had downward angle from his high arm slot and had a bit of late armside run to it. Curveball was 70-71 with gradual 11/5 break and good armspeed, has some shape and a chance to sharpen into a good pitch. Pitched primarily with the fastball and was around the zone with it the entire night. Showed pretty well for a player that does not pitch very often, definitely something here and he has a chance to be a significant two-way contributor at the next level.
