Wednesday night saw Senior Night at St. Paul VI Catholic as WCAC play is starting to approach its completion for the 2022 season. Bishop Ireton was in town to take on the Panthers and both teams sent seniors to the mound to start the game. Ireton went with lefty Peter Chiarello and Paul VI went with Brendan Cecka (St. Mary's MD).
Both pitchers were good, especially early as the game was scoreless through three innings. Paul VI was able to open up a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth when Cecka delivered a 2-out 2 RBI double. Ireton responded in the top of the fifth with two runs to tie it up, taking advantage of a few Panther defensive miscues.
Owen Mead (Marymount) relieved Cecka, but Chiarello stayed in the game until the end. The game went into the seventh tied at 2. Mead fired a scoreless top half of the inning. Chiarello got the first two hitters out in the bottom half on a pair of loud outs before leadoff hitter Alex Peltier (East Carolina) doubled to left field, setting up senior shortstop Carlos Irizarry (Penn State Harrisburg) to deliver a walk-off single to right-center.

Owen Hull 3B / 1B / Bishop Ireton , VA / 2023Hull is tall with a lanky frame that has a lot of projection and room to add strength. He played short for the Cardinals, showed some lateral quickness and smooth actions. Arm is average but accurate, has good rhythm in the field. At the plate, hits from the left side, relaxed upright stance, simple set-up. Very short and level to contact with extension through the ball, some whip in his finish. Showed a good approach using whole field, gap power present to all fields with some more to his pull side and a chance to grow into more as he adds strength. Long strider and a fast runner, 4.1-4.2 runner to first.

Alexander Peltier SS / OF / Paul VI, VA / 2024Peltier is an East Carolina commit with a lankier athletic frame that has a lot of projection left to it. Versatile defensively, played centerfield in this game and showed speed and range, gets decent breaks on the ball as well. At the plate, hits from a relaxed slightly open stance, short quick swing, keeps hands tight inside and lets barrel work. Gets some extension through the ball and finishes uphill. Line drive hitter now with some gap power to all fields and a chance to grow into more as he adds strength. Speed shows up in all aspects of the game.
