#1 Freedom-South Riding Eagles
The 2022 Class 6 State Champs return a lot of their championship roster. Headlined by a three-headed senior class monster on the mound this spring, look for the Eagles to be back in the thick of it in late May. Luke Proehl (Virginia Tech) was outstanding in the State Title game, lefty Ryan Marohn (NC State) was dominant as a multi-role guy, shutting the door in the State Semifinal, and Mason Butash (Penn State) was the district player of the year as a two-way contributor in 2022. All three are back and will form the backbone of a stacked rotation. Butash and junior outfielder Griffin Burkholder (West Virginia) provide juice and athleticism in the middle of a deep lineup, but the key that starts the engine is senior shortstop Christian Carver (George Mason). As always, expect Freedom to be well-coached, scrappy, and to execute. Add that to the high-end talent on the roster the Eagles are a potential powerhouse and the very early on-paper favorites in Class 6.
