It is with great excitement that we release to you today, our latest update to the Va/DC Class of 2023 rankings with our Top 75 release. This is our second 2023 class rankings release this week and we will wrap it up with the Top 200 on Wednesday. On Thursday we will highlight some big risers and new faces from across the class.
Benjamin Blair moves up three spots to #27. The Liberty commit was strong in the VHSL 3A State Semis versus Lafayette and followed that up with an outstanding outing at 17U National Championship at Lakepoint. Long thin frame with plenty of ceiling left as he fills out. 2021 Future Games alum.

Long levers & room to fill. FB 86-89 T90 (23-2435) & whiffs in upper half. SL has late, short shape at 77-80. Flashed 79 mph CH. Love the ceiling on this arm. #PBRFG21 alum@PBRVirginiaDC #17UNat pic.twitter.com/lYaqfW8Xlk
Owen Basso moves into the 30th spot after making a big jump in the velo department. Basso was up to 90 in front of our staff this spring in a very strong outing versus a solid offensive club.

Tough side arm slot, showcasing some ASR w/ the FB. SL plays tight, mixing a bigger CB w/ exceptional feel for a late fading CH

A new face to the VA/DC class is Pro 5 left-hander, Evan Smith. Smith had a lights out performance at the 17U National Championship and followed it up a few days later with another solid outing at the Southeast Senior Games.
New @PBR_Uncommitted face in VA/DC ‘23 class. The @PRO5baseballVA / @TheCanesBB Evan Smith been impressive through 4 IP.

FB 85-88 & not afraid to get in on RHH. Adv. feel for secondary, throw for K’s at will. Slurvy CB at 73-75 SL 77-78 & CH 77-79. @PBRVirginiaDC #17UNat pic.twitter.com/dzmlHP3Zbw
Two more new faces to the Top 75 are summer event standouts, #48 Conor Smith (Riverside) and #54 Owen Buckley (Loudon Valley). The two right handers had big days in front of our staff at two separate summer events. Smith showed some polish and pitchability with a deep repertoire of pitches, while Buckley had an electric fastball that had ride through the zone and offered intrigue with polish to be added.

Really liked what we saw out of Smith. Pitchability. Moved it in and out. Spin for strikes and SL has tight late shape.
