This spring, Prep Baseball Report will be announcing State and a National High School Player of the Year. State Players of the Year will be announced at 5 pm Eastern on Monday, June 19. The Prep Baseball Report National Player of the Year will be announced on Thursday, June 22 at the same time. Numerous players in Virginia and DC have put together outstanding seasons that warrant consideration as our Player of the Year, over the rest of this week, we will shine a spotlight on the players that we considered as finalists for that honor. 

Player of the Year Finalists Part 1

 

VA/DC PLAYER OF THE YEAR FINALISTS

Andrew Abbott LHP/OF Halifax County 2017 (Virginia)
Abbott helped lead Halifax to the 5A State Championship game. He was dominant on the mound all spring, going 9-0 with a 0.28 ERA in 76.2 IP while striking out 158 batters. At the plate, he also hit .447 with ten extra-base hits and 12 RBIs. He was drafted by the Yankees in the 36th Round of the the Major League Draft this week.

Carter Bosch RHP/SS Potomac School 2018
Bosch garnered All-Met honors while compiling impressive two-way stats this spring. At the plate, he hit .460 while driving in 18 runs. On the mound, he went 6-0 with a 0.20 ERA while striking out 63 batters in 42 innings of work.

Daniel Brooks RHP/SS Spotsylvania 2017 (George Mason)
Brooks led Spotsylvania to the 3A State tournament this spring. At the plate, he hit .386 with 12 doubles and three home runs. On the mound, he was 5-2 with a 1.21 ERA while working 58 innings and striking out 78 batters.

Noah Lerman OF Highland School 2017 (Sewanee)
Lerman manned centerfield for the Hawks, who reached the Division II State semifinals this spring, while also providing a dangerous bat to the lineup. He hit .418 for the season while scoring 35 runs and driving in 28 more. He had 14 stolen bases and also popped two home runs and eight doubles.

Tanner Morris SS Miller School 2017 (Virginia)
Morris was named First Team All-VISAA Division II and helped lead the Mavericks to the State Championship. He played a good shortstop and had a stellar offensive season. Morris hit .512 for the spring, scoring 51 runs and driving in 25 more. He also stroked 15 doubles.

Cody Warner C Turner Ashby 2017 (James Madison)
Warner paced the 3A State Champions offense this spring and showed off his versatility this spring by moving centerfield for the Knights quarterbacking the outfield instead of playing behind the plate, his natural position. Warner hit .515 while scoring 27 runs and driving in 23 more. He also hit four home runs.
