Team Mid-Atlantic 2019 Day 4 Notes

This week, Prep Baseball Report is hosting its premier summer underclass, which for the first time taking place at LakePoint in Georgia. The Future Games features over 400 of the top uncommitted 2021 and 2022 players from across the country in one place and is one of the most heavily scouted events of the year, with all 30 MLB clubs represented and well over 200 college coaches coming each year to follow the four days of action.

Players took part in a workout day on Wednesday, which will be followed by three days of games. Teams were selected regionally by PBR's local scouting staffs, with Team Mid-Atlantic being made up of the top players from Maryland, Delaware, DC, and Virginia. Here is our staff's notes on players who had standout days during game action:

 

-Matoaca 2021 C Tanner Clements had the hit of the weekend. Launching a grand slam with Team Mid-Atlantic down 9-6 in the bottom of the seventh with 2 outs and a 2 strike count. Did a good job reacting to a breaking ball and crushing it after seeing 90 up to that point in the at-bat. Also drew a walk and showed ability to get a good jump by stealing a base.

-Lake Braddock 2021 OF Ryan Cuadros finally got a hard hit ball to fall after hitting at-em balls for the last few days, taking a hack at a 2-0 pitch and ripping a ground-rule double in his first at-bat. Also got a good walking lead and stole third base easily.

-St. John's College 2021 C Casey Gibbs had another knock from the left side, letting a ball get deep and driving it through the left side for a hit. Also showed his catch and throw ability gunning a runner out with an accurate throw to second.

-Stafford 2021 OF Eli Lambros continued to show his batspeed and ability to work gap to gap with line drives, lining an RBI single up the middle. Later he showed his quick acceleration scoring from third on a first and third double steal. Also drew a key walk to load the bases before Clements' grand slam, getting behind 0-2 and laying off multiple close pitches to reach base. His arm strength was on display in the first inning when a runner was attempting to go first to third on a single down the leftfield line that he fielded to his back hand and fired a rope to third.

-Dulaney (MD) 2021 RHP/1B Todd Mozoki had an outstanding two-way game. At the plate, he went 2-2, ripping a double up the left-center alley and fighting a two-strike pitch into rightfield to keep the seventh inning rally alive. Also had another strong outing on the mound, this time working two scoreless innings with his fastball sitting 85-87 and touching 88 and 89 once each. Loose whippy arm action and a lot of projection left to the frame. Also showed a breaking ball at 70-73 and a change-up at 72-76. 

-Greenbrier Christian 2021 C Austin Younce showed arm strength today, throwing out two runners at second base in the same inning. The first was a very accurate throw on a straight steal. The second was a pitch in the dirt that he blocked and controlled, and then recovered to make an accurate throw to get the runner trying to advance.

-Hanover 2022 RHP Chase Hustead was 82-85, touching 86. Curveball was 72-74 and change-up was 78. Short quick arm action with easier effort, breaking ball has some spin to it, also showed the ability to generate swing and misses, striking out the first two hitters he faced. 

-William Byrd 2021 LHP Isaac Fix struggled with his command, but he showed a quick easy arm action and athleticism with a lanky frame that has a lot of projection left to it. His fastball was 82-86 and his curveball was 72-74. Got some swing and misses with his fastball, feel for curve was off.

-St. John's College 2021 OF/RHP James Wood threw one inning and was 85-88, touching 90 with his first pitch. Curveball had sharp 10/4 break to it. Big frame with a lot of projection and athleticism, short fast arm action with easy effort from a lower three-quarters arm slot. Got two strikeouts in a scoreless inning.
