TPG West: Primary OF Analysis

In late-June, PBR VA/DC hosted the Top Prospect Games West at Liberty University. Over 50 players from multiple classes and all corners of Virginia took part in the event, and we continue our analysis of those players today with the primary outfielders.
Phillip Chandler OF / 2B / Thomas Dale, VA / 2023Chandler is 5-4 with an athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, short stride on line, slight load back. Hips rotate with violence and he maintains some lower half balance. Stays inside ball and short to it. Slightly uphill swing path, line drive swing, showed good approach and worked gap to gap, exit velocity was 69. In the outfield, gets behind ball and plays through it, fielding with average hands. Quick clean exchange, throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot with a free arm action, outfield velocity was 66. Showed versatility working out in the infield as well, where his velocity was 61. |
Addison Clark OF / 3B / Carlisle, VA / 2021Clark is 6-3 with a strong athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, short stride on line, short load back. Hips rotate with some violence and he maintains some lower half balance. Stays inside ball, very strong at contact with extension through it. Slightly uphill swing path, line drive swing with a lot of natural loft built into it, worked primarily gap to gap, has gap power to all fields with home run power to his pull side, exit velocity was 96. In the outfield, gets behind ball and plays through it to his target, fielding with average hands. Clean exchange, throws from a over the top arm slot with a free arm action, outfield velocity was 82. Showed versatility working out in the infield as well, where his velocity was 77. |
James Colvin OF / 2B / Courtland, VA / 2023Colvin is 5-8 with an athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a balanced slightly open athletic stance, short leg kick stride open, smooth load back. Hips rotate completely and he maintains some lower half balance. Stays inside ball, short to contact point. Level line drive swing, showed good approach working gap to gap, exit velocity was 66. In the outfield, gets behind ball and plays through it to his target, fielding with average hands. Throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, outfield velocity was 57. |
Michael Dailey OF / Prince Edward, VA / 2022Dailey is 5-10 with an athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the left side from a tall slightly open balanced stance, leg kick stride on line, loads back. Hips rotate completely with violence and he maintains some lower half balance. Stays inside ball, short to contact point, fast bat and hands, strong at contact point with extension through the ball. Uphill swing path, showed ability to use the whole field but prefers to pull, extra base power on display already with more in the tank, exit velocity was 91. In the outfield, gets behind ball and plays through it to his target, fielding with above average hands. Quick clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, outfield velocity was 69. Ran a 7.14 60 yard dash. |
Eddie Gimbel OF / OF / Highland School, VA / 2020Gimbel is 6-1 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, short stride on line, short smooth load back. Hips rotate with some violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Stays inside ball, short to contact point, has some batspeed. Slightly uphill swing path, showed good approach working gap to gap, has extra base power in the alleys, exit velocity was 86. Jackson Gimbel RHP / OF / Highland School, VA / 2021Gimbel is 6-0 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, short stride on line, loads back to a bar. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Stays inside ball, short to contact point, has some batspeed. Level swing path, line drive swing with some loft built in, showed good approach working gap to gap, has extra base power in the alleys, exit velocity was 90. In the outfield, quick feet, gets behind ball and plays through it to his target, fielding with average hands. Colin Moore OF / RHP / Tunstall, VA / 2021Moore is 6-0 with a strong athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from an open balanced athletic stance, leg kick stride on line, smooth load back. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains some lower half balance. Stays inside ball, strong at contact point with extension through the ball. Uphill swing path, pull approach and generates loft, power present to his pull side, exit velocity was 89. In the outfield, gets behind ball and plays through it to his target, fielding with average hands. Clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, outfield velocity was 78. Showed versatility taking balls in the infield as well where velocity was 79. |
Patrick Rakes LHP / OF / Lord Botetourt, VA / 2022Rakes is 6-2 with a lankier athletic frame that has plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the left side from a slightly open athletic stance, strides on line, smooth load back, good rhythm to his setup. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains good lower half balance. Stays inside ball, short and quick to contact with some whip to his bat, gets extension through the ball. Slightly uphill swing path, line drive swing with some loft built in, showed a pull approach with some gap power, exit velocity was 81. In the outfield, gets behind ball and fields with average hands. Clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, outfield velocity was 75. Ran a 7.32 60 yard dash. |
Drew Stieg OF / 3B / McLean, VA / 2020Stieg is a George Mason commit and is 5-11 with a stronger athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, short leg kick stride on line, short load back. Hips rotate completely with some violence and he maintains some lower half balance. Stays inside ball, short and quick to contact, fast bat, strong at contact with extension through the ball. Uphill swing path, line drive swing with loft built in, showed a pull approach with easy extra base power, exit velocity was 91.
