NOVA Fall Review: OF and C Analysis

In September, players from Virginia, DC, and neighboring states assembled at Patriot High School in Northern Virginia to take part in the NOVA Fall Review. These players were from the Classes of 2019, 2020, 2021. Today we begin our in-depth analysis of the players who took part in that event with the outfielders and catchers.
Sam Beard C / RHP / Brentsville District , VA / 2019Beard is 6-0 with a lankier athletic frame that has projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open athletic stance, short leg kick strides on line, smooth load back, good rhythm, hips rotate completely, good balance to swing. Very short to ball and quick to it to, slightly uphill swing path with extension through the ball, line drive swing with some carry in the gaps and potential to add power, exit velocity was 81. Behind the plate, quick clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters with a short quick arm action. Position velocity was 75 and pop times were 1.97-2.04, some accuracy on his throws. Quiet receiver, shows good sway. |
Nikolas Branch OF / OF / Massaponax, VA / 2019Branch is 5-10 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open loaded back athletic stance, strides on line, short load back, hips rotate completely, he maintains some balance during his swing. Short to ball, slightly uphill line drive swing, strong at contact point with uphill finish, has chance to add power as he adds strength, exit velocity was 78. In the outfield, is quick and rounds ball to field in throwing direction with above average hands. Quick clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 76, showed some accuracy to his throws. Ran a 7.08 60 yard dash. |
Matthew Ford C / 2B / Oakton, VA / 2020Ford is 5-9 with a lankier athletic frame that has projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a balanced open stance, strides on line, loads back, has rhythm to his swing, hips rotate completely, he maintains good balance during his swing. Very short to ball, quick bat with some whip to it, line drive swing with some uphill extension through the ball, showed good approach working middle of the field, exit velocity was 85. Behind the plate, quick exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, position velocity was 73 and pop times were 2.06-2.19, showed some accuracy on throws. Showed versatility working out at multiple positions, arm played up to 77 in the infield and 81 in the outfield. Ran a 7.18 60 yard dash |
Cameron Wayt OF / Broad Run, VA / 2019Wayt is 6-1 with a strong athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from an open upright athletic stance, short leg kick stride on line, short load back with slight wrap and bar, hips rotate completely, he maintains good balance during his swing. Quick to ball, uphill line drive swing, very strong at contact point with extension through the ball, has home run power to his pull side with, showed pull approach, exit velocity was 88. In the outfield, rounds ball to field in throwing direction with above average hands. Clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 80. Ran a 6.87 60 yard dash. |
Zachary Yost C / 3B / Clover Hill, VA / 2020Yost is 6-1 with an athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, short stride on line, short load down, hips rotate completely, he maintains good balance during his swing. Short to ball, level line drive swing with some uphill extension through the ball, showed pull approach, exit velocity was 77. Behind the plate, gains ground towards second on exchange, throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 67 and pop times were 2.25-2.44. |
