Junior Future Games Team Mid-Atlantic: Day 2 Notes

Facebook + InstagramOn Friday, Team Mid-Atlantic's Junior Future Games teams played their second round of pool play games, with each team playing two games on the day. Both 14U teams won their Thursday pool and advanced to Friday's Gold bracket, while 13U advanced to the Silver Bracket.
Both 14U teams won their Gold Brackets, and have earned spots in Saturday's Championship round. 13U won its Silver Bracket, and will advance to Saturday's Silver Bracket Championship game.
Here are a brief recaps with highlights from the games:
14U Green
Green 4, PBR Oklahoma 3
Pitching was the story of this game early as Mid-Atlantic scored two in the first inning and then tried to hang on from there, only for Oklahoma to rally in the seventh to take a lead. But Green was not done, rallying to score two runs in the bottom of the seventh to walk off to the win.
Ryan Bland (Douglas Freeman, VA) started the game and went 3 strong innings, allowing just 1 run and striking out 3.

Luke Childress (Tazewell, VA) started the game on the mound for Green and went four strong innings, allowing just one run. Also ripped a single in his first at-bat.

Trailing 1-0 in the fifth inning, Cameron Lamb (Lee-Davis, VA) delivered a 2-out RBI single to tie the game at 1.

Colin Bunch entered the game on the mound and struck out the side in the bottom of the fifth. He would finish the game, tossing three scoreless innings while striking out 5 total.

Dominic Cafferillo (Charlottesville, VA) was robbed by a diving stop at short, but he did drive in a run in the process.

14U Blue
Blue 13, PBR Kentucky 5
Kentucky's bats came out hot, jumping to a 5-2 lead after the top of the 2nd inning. But Blue responded with a 9 run second inning and cruised to the win after that.

Ryan Maxey (Georgetown Prep, MD) continued his hot week with a 2-2 game and 2 RBIs. Tucker Swails (Patrick County, VA) was outstanding on the mound, going 4 innings and not allowing any of his runners to score while also drawing a walk and ripping an RBI single at the plate.

Carson Seely (New Kent, VA) got out of a jam in the bottom of the second, keeping the game tied at one. He would also work the third inning as well and he had an RBI single during a rally in the third.

Blue scored three runs to open up a lead in the third inning, with Ryan Maxey (Georgetown Prep, MD) continuing his outstanding weekend with a leadoff double. Later in the inning, Wells got into a ball for a triple to left.

Blue scored two in the fourth and four in the fifth to put the game away. Peyton Miller (Gilman, MD) contributed to the rally in the fifth with this deep triple to center.

Mid-Atlantic 16, Kentucky 5
13U got off to a fast start in their first game, scoring three runs in the first, with the big blows being a Casey Carpenter triple and a Owen Brundage (Heritage, VA) 2-RBI triple in the inning.
Casey Carpenter also started the game on the mound for 13U and worked the first two innings.
Kentucky scored 2 in the second to cut the deficit, and the Mid-Atlantic erupted for 6 runs in the top of the third. Braeden Loving started the inning off with a double, and Max Lawson (Briar Woods) had a two-RBI single in the rally as well.
Mid-Atlantic added 3 more in the top of the fourth, as Parker Friend, Loving, and Kaden Barmer all delivered two-out RBI hits in a row with a single, double, and triple respectively.
Max Lawson would end the game with a monster line of 2-2 with a SAC fly and 4 RBIs, including this RBI single.
Jayden Saunders (Wilson, DC) threw the third and fourth innings for Team Mid-Atlantic. and Ryan Jackson (Liberty Christian, VA) threw the fifth, striking out the side.
Mid-Atlantic 10, West Virginia 0
13U got things going in a hurry with an 8-run rally in the first inning. The first hit of the game was collected by Parker Friend, who doubled to get things started.
