TC started the game with senior lefty Jack Goodrich, and he got two quick outs to open the game before the Sharks were able to load the bases courtesy of an error and two walks. Goodrich was able to escape the jam. In the bottom of the first, Colgan junior lefty Everett Catlett allowed a leadoff single, but got a big strikeout with one out and eventually stranded the runner at third.
Goodrich worked a perfect top of the second and in the TC half of the inning, the first batter reached on a pop up on the infield that Catlett misplayed. Two batters later, with two outs a ball was grounded to shortstop and an in-between hop was missed, allowing the ball to go into leftfield and TC to take a 1-0 lead.
That would be all of the scoring for the game. Goodrich escaped a jam in the third, stranding Sharks on second and third, and was also able to work around a leadoff single in the fourth. Goodrich got better as the game went on, retiring the last nine hitters of the game and recording the final out of the game by snaring a lineout on a comebacker.
Catlett also was outstanding, allowing a hit by pitch and a lone flare to drop in during the last four innings to keep Colgan in the game, and he struck out 6 of the last 10 hitters he faced in the game.
For TC Williams, Goodrich went 7 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 4 BB, 8 K to earn the win. Jaden Cox was 1-3 with a SB and Griffin Harris was 1-2 with a SB for the Titans.
For Colgan, Catlett was a tough-luck loser, going 6 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 9 K. Ryley Johnson (East Carolina) was 1-3 with a 2B and Braden Hussain was 1-3 with a SB.
TC Williams will advance to the Region 6C quarterfinals on Friday, where they will travel to defending State Champion West Springfield.
