Fall Invite: Middle Infield Analysis

In November, PBR VA/DC hosted a combined Fall Event at Virginia Sportsplex. Originally, we were set to host an Underclass Fall Invite at Old Dominion and an Unsigned Senior Showcase at Virginia Sportsplex, but inclement weather forced us to cancel the event at ODU and combine the two events into our Fall Invite, which featured players from the classes of 2018, 2019, and 2020 and represented all corners of the Commonwealth.

Today, we continue our detailed analysis of the event by looking at the middle infielders who participated in the event. Look for breakdowns of the pitchers tomorrow.

Daniel Dunn 2B Highland Springs 2018 (Averett)
Dunn is 5-7 with an athletic frame. He hits from the left side from an athletic stance. Strides on line, short load back. Explosive lower half, stands up through his swing. Short swing, uphill path through the ball, showed ability to work gap to gap, exit velocity was 86. At short, clean feet, works around ball and plays through it, fielding with a wide base and above average hands. Clean exchange, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, short arm action, infield velocity was 74. In outfield, gets behind balls, clean exchange. Throws from three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, outfield velocity was 75. Ran a 7.40 60 yard dash.

Blake Fisher SS/RHP Highland 2020
Fisher is 5-10 with an athletic frame, he hits from the left side from an open athletic stance. Short leg kick stride on line, smooth load back, good rhythm to swing. Explosive hips and good balance during swing. Short quick swing, level path with extension through it. Line drive swing with some power potential, mostly worked middle of the field, gets uphill to pull side, exit velocity was 81. At short, quick clean feet, rounds the ball well and plays through it, fields with a wide base and above average hands. Quick clean exchange, throws from three-quarters arm slot with short loose arm action, infield velocity was 83. Ran a 7.07 60 yard dash.

Tyler Garcia 2B Chantilly 2020
Garcia is 5-9 with a lankier athletic frame, he hits from the right side from a wide slightly open athletic stance. Short stride on line, minimal load, some rhythm to swing. Explosive lower half, good balance to swing. Short to the ball with extension through it, works slightly uphill through contact, line drive swing. Worked gap to gap, exit velocity was 74. At short, clean footwork, rounds ball and plays through it. Fields ball with a wider base and above average hands. Clean exchange, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, short free arm action, infield velocity was 76. Ran a 7.41 60 yard dash.

Ty Gravett 2B Highland 2019
Gravett is 5-10 with an athletic frame, hits from the right side from an open athletic stance. Short leg kick stride on line, smooth load back with slight wrap, some rhythm to his swing. Takes barrel straight to ball, level line drive swing, showed good approach working the middle of the field, exit velocity was 78. At short, gets body behind ball and fields with a wider base and average hands. Quick clean exchange, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, short free arm action, infield velocity was 74. Ran a 7.02 60 yard dash.

Christian Henderson 2B Oscar Smith 2020
Henderson is 5-5 and has an athletic frame, he hits from the right side from a slightly open athletic stance. Short stride on line, smooth back load. Hips rotate fully and has some balance to swing. Level line drive swing, showed good approach working gap to gap, exit velocity was 70. At short, gets body behind ball, fields with a wide base and soft hands. Clean exchange, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, infield velocity was 64.

Jordan Leary 2B Warwick 2018
Leary is 5-6 with an athletic frame, hits from the right side from an open athletic stance, short stride on line, smooth load back with an arm bar. Hips rotate, some balance to his swing. Line drive swing, slightly uphill path, worked primarily gap to gap, exit velocity was 68. At short, gets body behind ball, fields with a wider base and average hands. Plays through the ball, short arm action from a low three-quarters arm slot, position velocity was 64. Ran a 7.31 60 yard dash.

Brooks Mazey SS Deep Run 2019
Mazey is 5-11 with an athletic frame, he hits from the right side from an open athletic stance. Leg kick stride on line, smooth load back, good rhythm to his swing. Explosive lower half, good weight shift and some balance to his swing. Short and quick to the ball, whippy bat, extends through the ball, slightly uphill line drive swing, showed good approach working gap to gap, has barrel awareness, exit velocity was 86. At short, quick clean feet, works around the ball and plays through it. Fields with a wide base and soft hands. Clean exchange, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, short arm action that is free, infield velocity was 77. Ran a 7.14 60 yard dash.

Connor Moriarty SS Albemarle 2018
Moriarty is 5-11 with a lankier athletic frame, he hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance. Short leg kick stride on line, smooth load back, some rhythm to his swing. Some hip explosion with good balance to his swing. Short swing, slightly uphill path gets more pronounced to pull side. Good approach, worked gap to gap, exit velocity was 79. At short, gets behind ball, fields with a wider base and above average hands. Pushes through the ball to a clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, infield velocity was 72.

Matthew Rhodes SS/RHP St. John’s College 2018
Rhodes is 5-11 with a lankier athletic frame and hits from the right side from an open athletic stance. Big leg kick stride on line, short load back, some rhythm to his swing. Explosive lower half and some balance to his swing. Takes barrel straight to ball, pull approach, uphill swing path with extension through it, exit velocity was 85. At shortstop, clean feet, rounds ball and plays through it. Fields ball with soft hands and a wide base, quick clean exchange, throws form a three-quarters arm slot with a shorter arm action, infield velocity was 77. Ran a 7.18 60 yard dash.
