Colonial Forge Opens With Rivalry Win

Wednesday saw Colonial forge and Mountain View open their season with a Commonwealth District quarterfinal game. Both teams started seniors with Mountain View sending righthander Andrew Neff (Concord) to the mound and Colonial Forge countered with righthander Josh Daas. Both teams traded blows early, but ultimately Colonial Forge would prove too much for the Wildcats and cruise to a 14-4 win.

In the top of the first, Colonial Forge picked up 2 runs after a pair of walks and junior Aiden Tierney’s 2-out RBI single coupled with an error. In the top of the second Nathan Zimmerman plopped a double into right field and Aiden Henderson singled to left scoring another run to make it 3-0 Forge after the top of the second.

In the bottom of the second, Mountain View tied the game up at 3 after junior Sonny Munoz had a 2-run single and a later scored on a throwing error.

In the top of the third, Colonial Forge added 2 more runs. Then the Eagles blew the game open in the top of the 4th with 5 more runs keyed by a Jake Workman (Bucknell) RBI single and a Tierney 2-run double.

Colonial Forge would add 4 more in the top of the fifth, with Keegan Doyle delivering a 2-run single and AJ Zeak delivering his second RBI hit of the game. Mountain View got one in the bottom of the fifth, but the game ended there with a final score of Colonial Forge 14, Mountain View 4. Colonial Forge advances to Thursday's District tournament semifinal doubleheader.

For Mountain View, Neff took the loss with 3 IP, 5 R, 4 H, 3 BB, 4 K. 2021 Evan Hamill was 0-1 with 2 BBs and a SB. Senior Zach Kaatz (Lock Haven) was 0-1 with a BB and a HBP. Munoz was 1-3 with 2 RBIs.

For Colonial Forge, senior Jordan Tauriac threw 2 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 2 BB, HBP, 2 K. Wortman was 2-3 with an RBI and a HBP. Tierney was 2-4 with 3 RBIs and a 2B. Zeak was 2-4 with 2 RBIs. Doyle was 1-2 with a BB, SAC, and 3 RBIs. Henderson was 2-3 and Tim Chamernik was 2-3 with a SB.
