November 15, 2018
DRIPPING SPRINGS, TX - On Sunday, November 11th, we had the chance to catch up with Lonestar Baseball Academy at their Scout Day. We posted the top statistical performers yesterday, and now we move on with scout notes on some of the top players. Today we look at the younger group with 2021-2023 grads. Keep in mind that the field played slow for the 60-yard dash, and the guys battled through a colder, damp day for games.
2021
RHP Carson Babb (Hutto HS) stands 6-foot-1, 175-pounds with a lean, muscular frame. The right-hander works from a high slot with a long, clean arm swing and drop-and-drive delivery. His fastball touched 84 mph once, sitting 81-83. Spun true curveball at 70 mph. Plenty of upside with his frame, delivery, and clean arm swing.
LHP Coleson Abel (Kerrville Tivy HS) has a lean, athletic frame at 5-foot-9, 165-pounds. The left-hander’s arm works well from a high slot and he pumped strikes at 80-82 mph. Good feel for his slider with 1/7 shape and depth to finish at 71-72 mph.
RHP Edward Mendoza (Eagle Pass HS) has a lean, athletic frame at 5-foot-11, 170-pounds. The right-hander works from a high-¾ slot with a medium arm stroke. Coils at the top of his balance point with a high leg lift that creates some deception with effort down the mound. Scattered his fastball around the zone at 84-86 mph, touching 87 once. Curveball has early break at 66-67 mph. Also throws a splitty that serves as his changeup at 70 mph.
RHP Joshua Stewart (St. Dominic Savio Catholic) has a durable frame at 6-foot, 175-pounds. The right-hander repeats his delivery with relative ease down the mound and a clean release from a ¾ slot. Fastball touched 84 ounce, sitting 81-83 mph. Slider comes from the same window with tight rotation at 72-73 mph.

LHP/OF Tyler Cooper (Jack C. Hays HS) pumped strikes with his fastball at 76-79 mph, and showed some feel for a 64-66 mph breaking ball. In the outfield, he played through the ball with an athletic crow hop and threw with a top velocity of 80 mph to the dish.
OF/2B Cooper Duennenberg (Kerrville Tivy HS) posted the fastest 60 time of the day with a 6.96. Good all-around athlete and right-handed hitter made hard contact during BP with a top exit velocity of 81 mph.
SS David Jordan (Brandeis HS) is a right-handed hitter with twitchy hands that produce a quick bat through the zone and hard contact during BP. Uses a leg kick load as he triggers his hands back, creating separation and allowing for a leveraged hack on an uphill plane.
2022
Couple of young athletes that play two premium positions (C & SS) are E.J. Garcia (Canyon HS), and Zack Zavala (Marble Falls HS). Garcia and is an all-around athletic player with feel for the barrel. Plays easy catch at both spots with a clean exchange and good feel for the game. Athletic on blocks and picks, posted a top velocity from the crouch of 70 mph with pop times ranging from 2.03-2.18. The right-handed hitter made hard contact in the middle of the field with an 84 mph exit velocity. Zavala ran a 7.29 60-yard dash, an 85 mph exit velocity, and 2.17-2.26 pop times.
RHP Noah Hamel (Samuel Clemens HS) is an intriguing young arm with projectable pitcher’s frame at 6-foot-2, 160-pounds. The right-hander works from a ¾ slot with a long arm stroke and good action on his fastball at 75-76 mph, topping out at 77.
Keep an eye on LHP/1B Brendan Raymond (Hays HS) who already stands 6-foot-4, 190-pounds. The left-hander works from a ¾ slot with an athletic lower half in his delivery. Fastball topped out at 79, sitting mostly 77-78 mph. Shows feel for spin at 66-68 mph and releases it from the same tunnel with his hand on top of the ball. Throws his changeup with fastball arm speed at 70-72 mph.
RHP Lino Daniel Rodriguez (Bowie HS) stands 5-foot-11, 180-pounds, and has a quick arm with the ability to throw a breaking ball for a strike. His fastball sat 79-82 mph, while his curveball has 10/4 shape at 65-67.
2023
SS Hank Benny (Lake Travis HS) is a name to remember moving forward. Athletic defender with above average actions for his class. Accurate arm, soft hands, and quick footwork. The right-handed hitter has a simple swing with rhythm and loose hands that allows for good lag in the barrel and hard contact.
