TEXAS - On Monday, we updated 2024 Player Rankings where we expanded the list to 200 players. Today, we take a look at some of the top uncommitted players from the 2024 class as they head into the Summer.

+ #10 RHP Jack Frankel - John Paul II

The RHP from Plano is a one time Mississippi State Commit, who opened his recruitment back up at the beginning of the spring, and is our top ranked uncommitted prospect.  Frankel didn’t throw last year and is working his back into form this spring, and is one round away from helping his HS make the state tournament. Frankel displays a lot of polish and presence on the mound. He attacks each outing with a plan and pitches with a maturity you don’t often see. Stuff wise, his fastball is traditionally in the low 90’s with high spin and he shows the ability to command it to both sides. He throws a slider and change up as well. They are both above average. pitches with the changeup being the more consistent of the two.  He can throw it to either lefties or righties and generates swing and miss in the zone with the pitch.  The slider can generate spin numbers around 3000 rpm’s, and can be a true swing and miss pitch when it’s right.  Frankel has been one of the premier arms in the state for an extended period of time, and he offers a high floor with a high ceiling. He hasn’t thrown much the last two years, and he needs innings, but he is one of the premier arms around. 

 

+ #12 RHP/OF Donte Lewis - St. Thomas

Lewis was one of the big risers in this ranking update. The two sport star has shown high level upside at the plate, but has been electric on the mound. The athletic righty has shown a fastball that has sat 91-93 for much of the spring and touched a tick higher. It is a smooth operation on the mound with a clean path, that he should be able to repeat well.  The arm speed is evident and as he continues to learn to sync the lower half, Lewis could have another big velo jump.  He flashes an above average slider that has late sweeping action. It is a real put away pitch that will allow him to put up big strikeout numbers.  Overall, Lewis is a plus athlete who shows a feel for pitching on the mound. He is just scratching the surface and I expect he will continue to make big jumps. 

 

+ #32 INF Fisher Polydoroff - Keller

Polydoroff made a name for himself batting in the middle of Keller’s lineup as a Sophomore and producing at a high level.  It’s been a year and Polydoroff hasn’t stopped hitting yet.  The infielder plays with a lot of confidence and always looks hitterish in the box.  He has a lot of natural rhythm and is always on time. He has good bat speed and should have at least avg. power at the next level.  Polydoroff has enough arm to play either 2nd or 3rd and shows a good transfer at 2nd while turning two. I think his best profile is as an offensive minded 2nd baseman who delivers a lot of power from that position.  Polydoroff and his Keller teammates are still in the playoffs and have a good shot at making it to the state tournament. 

 

+ #48 RHP Marc Barnhard - Grand Oaks

Barnhard is another one of the big movers in this ranking update.  The RHP from Houston has continued to see his velo tick up and his secondary pitches have as well as a result.  His fastball can get up to 94 now, and sits mostly 88-91.  He gets good riding life on the pitch up in the zone and there is more velo coming.  He shows a tight slider that he throws in the low 80’s that has a late sharp break to it.  It comes out of the same slot as a fastball and pairs nicely with it as well.  Barnhard still has to keep improving his command, but the stuff and work ethic are real.  Barnhard is poised to have a big summer and I expect him to garner a lot of interest. 

 

+ #52 RHP Kadyn Leon - Lake Travis

I was able to see Leon in mid-March and was very impressed with his arm talent. He isn’t the biggest guy on the diamond but has a quick arm and is a fierce competitor. In my look at Leon, he was 89-91 and topped 92 with the fastball. He leaned on the FB up in the zone to get out of some jams in a rivalry game against Westlake and can tunnel a CB off of it to generate swing and miss. The CH is in the low 80s and plays well off the FB. The most impressive part of his game is the ability to pitch in big situations with a lot on the line, his stuff plays up in these moments and he shows full confidence in his ability. Leon has had a great season on the bump for the Cavaliers and is someone they can lean on as they look to make a deep playoff run.

 

+ #67 1B/OF McClane Helton - Cy Woods

Helton is a sweet swinging lefty who is having a big year for the #1 ranked team in Texas, Cypress Woods.  Helton is 6’3 and is still growing into his body.  But he has natural barrel skills and shows the ability to drive the ball with authority to all parts of the field.  He has good natural rhythm in the box and is always ready to hit.  He stays in the big part of the field most of the time, but as he continues to get stronger, Helton is going to have some real power.  Helton plays first, but is more than capable of playing both corner OF spots and shows off a quality arm. Helton keeps getting better, and I am confident he is going to hit wherever he ends up. 

 

+ #70 LHP AJ Ripley - JJ Pearce

Ripley has been one of my favorites since the State Games last fall, and he has just gotten better since then. The talented lefty sits in the 85-88 range and can get to both sides of the plate.  He has broad shoulders and a projectable frame, I think Ripley has another big velo jump in him. He throws a quality curveball that shows good depth.  He can drop it in for a strike or bury it on the back foot of a RHH.  He also throws a changeup that can generate weak contact and keep the hitters honest.  Ripley knows how to pitch and his stuff continues to tick up.  Ripley has a LHP starter’s profile and someone will be getting a steal. 

 

+ #73 RHP Wesley Peck - The Colony

Peck may be the biggest riser on this list.  He had a monster Jr. season and is going to have a lot of attention this summer.  The 6’3 righty from The Colony had a big jump this season that saw him put up gaudy numbers and he threw a no hitter which led to him being named PBR Texas Pitcher of the Week.  He went from mid 80’s last summer to sitting 88-90 and touching 91, 92.  It is a clean operation with minimal effort. He repeats it well and he will continue to see the velo tick up.  He throws a tight curveball with good depth that can generate some bad swings and freeze hitters as well. Peck really put himself on the map this spring and he will garner a lot of attention this summer. 

 

+ #75 UTL/RHP Trenton Buckley - Magnolia West

Buckley has always had some loud tools, and now they are really starting to show up this spring as he and his Magnolia West teammates are looking to make a state run. The first thing you have to talk about is Buckley’s arm talent. It shows up on the dirt or on the grass and is one of the best arms in Texas.  He can easily get into the upper 90’s from the OF and low to mid 90’s from the infield.  In the box, Buckley has good bat speed and can really impact the baseball.  He doesn’t always allow his athleticism to show up in his swing, but when he does he can leave the yard to any part of the field.  Buckley is always fun to watch play, because the tools are so fun. He is starting to become a complete player, and someone is going to grab a guy with a super high upside. 

 

+ #80 INF/OF John Cooper Moore - Tyler Legacy

Moore is another one that looks the part and has all of the tools. We have gotten to see Moore up close a few times and I leave impressed every time.  He has a good arm and it plays all over the field.  He can handle 3rd or any of the OF positions.  At the plate, Moore has shown in game power and the ability to impact the baseball to all fields.  The right handed hitter shows good bat speed and with a frame that will allow him to get stronger, Moore will grow into above avg. power.  Moore does a lot of things well with a lot of tools and a projectable frame. He has a high ceiling and could have above average tools across the board when it’s all said and done.
