TN All-Uncommitted Team (2020): Position Players
April 14, 2020
As we approach the one month mark since the Tennessee high school season came to a halt, the PBR Staff decided to (hypothetically) assemble a team of the best uncommitted 2020 prospects from all across the state. We created a squad of 25 seniors, broken down into 11 position players, 9 pitchers, and 5 two-way prospects. Today, we'll take a look at the eleven position players who will round out the lineup then later this week we'll dive into the two-ways and pitchers.
During these complex times, any uncommitted 2020 player looking to play collegiately, send info/video to Scouting Director Colton Provey.
Position Players
Catchers
Matthew Levi C Science Hill Rank: 110
A physical 6-foot-2, 200-pound C/3B was a must see at bat this summer at Lakepoint tournaments. The right-handed hitting backstop has a powerful swing w/ ample bat speed through the zone. Looks to get the head out and launch balls to the pull side, ball carries well.
Jack Smith C Houston Rank: 116
The 6-foot-3, 210-pound C/1B showed advanced defensive ability, both receive and throw. Present nice low target, working through the ball for good frame. Good footwork and arm strength on throws to 2B. Tall, athletic frame w/ steady strength. The right-handed hitting catcher hits w/ a straight on, slightly crouched stance w/ short hand rhythm into stride and no hand load. Generates good bat speed through the zone with pull side approach and natural loft. 2018 Future Games participant.
Corner Infielders
Gabe Sibert 3B Rossview Rank: 62
The 6-foot, 200-pound 3B/2B is the number one available 2020 TN prospect. Continues to show ability to do damage, driving the ball to all fields. Barrel on plane early and often with balanced, advanced approach w/ strong presence in the batters box. Plays a nice hot corner w/ good hand and average arm strength. A well-rounded prospect who will be a great late addition.
Cade Walker 3B Page Rank: 81
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound dual sport athlete turned in a Mr. Football semi-finalists performance on the gridiron this fall and was looking to cap off a great senior year on the diamond. The 3B/QB1 prospect has a sound set of tools and projectable frame to find a home at the next level. Walker has the arm strength to stay at the hot corner, plus some bat speed with pull side pop appeal. An all-around player with some athleticism will be an intriguing follow on the recruiting front.
Tyler Byrd 3B Tipton Rosemark Academy Rank: 120
The 6-foot-2, 182-pound hot corner prospect has a medium, athletic frame and solid all-around game. Showed feel for frame to generate above average bat speed with whip through zone. Power pull approach, but finding more consistency offensively. Provides an above average glove at 3B with soft hands and easy arm strength across the diamond. Plus defender at 3B/2B with upside offensive output.
Camden Suhoza 1B Collierville Rank: 130
The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Suhoza stood out in limited action at the TBCA showcase this summer. The big body first baseman packs some thud in his bat. Hits from slightly open, balanced stance. Lot of early movement, but keeps the hands loose and rotates well into short compact swing. Tendency to pepper hard line drives to all fields. Certainly, the highest upside first baseman on the board.
Middle Infielders
Tanner Shiver SS Maryville Rank: 79
The 5-foot-10, 170-pound uncommitted middle infielder finds himself at the top of the board. Shiver has continued to fill out his frame, putting on twenty pounds since Border Battle in 2018. Has tools to stay at SS at next level, but can provide depth and versatility playing all over the infield. Good hands and transitions, steady defensive infielder. Offensively, sprays the ball to all field w/ heavy dose of line drives and gap-to-gap power. Balanced, patient approach at the plate. This 2020 will be a quality late add that can bring a dynamic skillset to a college program.
Ryan Wells SS Eagleville Rank: 127
The 6-foot, 168-pound SS has had a knack for finding barrels at the top of the Eagleville lineup. Shows intriguing bat speed and athleticism in the box. Hands work w/ projectable strength to drive the baseball. Aggressive approach, looking to get head out and pull the ball w/ power. Has shown SS defensive tools, as well as a mid 80’s FB.
Outfielders
Slayde Simmons OF Shelbyville Rank: 83
The 6-foot-1, 195-pound Simmons has a big-league body and can swing it with some authority from the left side. Solid presence and physical game. The dual sport athlete barrels baseballs with authority from gap to gap with plenty of bat speed. Strong defender with solid arm, projects to be a power lefty corner OF bat. This slugger is the best lefty bat still on the board.
Isaac German OF Clarksville Academy Rank: 103
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound corner OF has a tall, athletic frame with proportional strength and showcased some intriguing bat speed. Potential to be a monster physically. Offensively, open, crouched stance while generating above average bat speed with natural loft. Tools to hit for average w/ pull power. Chance for all fields power as frame matures, understands how to use his lower half to stay through the baseball.
Taylor Shahan OF Baylor Rank: 114
Uncommitted, consistent contributor for this Baylor club. Covered some ground in the OF, tracking down some balls hit well in the gap. Good arm with some carry and exceptionally accurate. At the plate, it’s a strong, compact swing and the ball comes off the bat well. He went two for five with a RBI-double to deep CF and a single in the 5th inning. Intriguing uncommitted senior who will play a huge role defensively in the OF and steady bat at the top of the order for a star-studded team.
