Team Tennessee's 2019 PBR Future Games experience was a great one, as the 2019 group finished the weekend 0-2-1 with tight games against the top talent from Mid-Atlantic, Missouri, and Kentucky. Although the team didn't get in the win column, Team Tennessee players made some serious impressions on the hundreds of college coaches in attendance at the event (320 to be exact). Over the next few days, Tennessee Scouting Director Colton Provey and PBR Tennessee staff will recap Team Tennessee’s weekend with notes and observations from the prospects in attendance, broken down by position group.

Today the staff breakdown the three catchers that donned the orange and white for Team Tennessee at the 2019 PBR Future Games.

Team Tennessee: Catchers

Jared Vetetoe C / OF / Davidson Academy, TN / 2021 Rankings  StateRank: 23 / POS: 2 60: 6.81 C Velo: 79 Pop Time: 1.97-2.10 Exit Velo: 89 OF Velo: 89 The 6-foot-1, 181-pound lefty-swinging catcher/outfielder showed he could do a lot of different things throughout the weekend.  During showcase day, Vetetoe logged the 3rd best 60 time for Team Tennessee, as well as top C Velo and tied for top OF Velo.  In game action, Vetetoe went 2 for 5 at the plate (2 1B/ 1 BB) w/ 3 quality at bats in 6 plate appearances. He also had 3 SB, 3 runs scored, and 2 RBIs.  A smooth swing from the left side w/ explosive bat speed leading to run production. Well-rounded game w/ good arm, speed, hit, and power.  Also pitched scoreless inning on Day 2 (FB:84-86, T87). Plans to focus on catching development this fall.  Profile projects as all-around impact player w/ multiple tools and sweet lefty swing.

Blake Barton C / SS / Grace Christian Academy, TN / 2021 Rankings  StateRank: 19 / POS: 1 60: 7.00 C Velo: 74 Pop Time: 1.94-2.02 Exit Velo: 92 The 6-foot, 185-pound backstop continues to be a staple of consistency. During the showcase portion, Barton set a new personal best exit velo and continued to run and throw well compared to previous events this summer.  In BP, the ball jumped off the bat w/ easy gap to gap power.  In game action, Barton went 2 for 6 (1 1B/ 1 2B) w/ 3 quality at bats in 6 plate appearances.  He had 3 RBIs and scored 1 run.  Behind the dish, managed the game well, sound blocker w/ quick short release. Profile projects as a true two-way catcher with great intangibles and well-rounded skills.

Andrew Yu C / 2B / Ensworth, TN / 2021 Rankings  StateRank: 80 / POS: 6 60: 7.27 C Velo: 77 Pop Time: 1.88-1.97 Exit Velo: 92 The 6-foot, 190-pound catcher continued to stay hot at Lakepoint for the Futures Games. During the showcase segment, Yu logged the 5th overall best pop time for all participants.  Showed to be an advanced receiver w/ quiet movements and quick release on throws.  At the plate, smooth rhythm w/ bat staying in zone for long time.  Drove the baseball gap-to-gap during BP. Went 2 for 4 (1B/ 2B/ 2 BB) w/ 4 quality at bats in 6 plate appearances + scored 3 runs.  Advanced approach at the plate for the RHH. Profile projects as advanced defender behind the dish and intriguing bat w/ offensive upside.
