Chattanooga Open: Positional Player Reports
September 12, 2023
CHATTANOOGA, TN - The Chattanooga Open was held on Wednesday July 12th at Chattanooga State CC in Chattanooga, TN. This event was an open event that consisted of players from the 2024-2027 classes from Volunteer state. Players went through an extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman, ran the 60-yard dash using Swift Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to get numbers and metrics on TrackMan. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing at the event.
Continuing our post-event coverage for this event, we take a look back at the scouting reports from the event, starting with all positional players from the event.

Can get long at times with his body and could benefit from a shorter stride.

Also showed ability to crouch with his backhand while staying low with the hips to finish through his throw. As fluid feel for moving his body and doesn't sacrifice much momentum when receiving the baseball. Quick transfers while still somewhat raw in the infield.
ATH: 6.78 runner in the 60. 1.65 and 3.80 in the 10 and 30 yard splits.

Hit: RHH. Strong lower half with middle balanced stance that stays neutral. Hands behind ear with barral slightly above head. High leg kick that can get choppy at times towards the pitcher. Power: 90 max exit velocity, averaged 76.3 mph. 285' max distance.
Arm: RH. C-74 mph. Quick arm that stays together throughout his body moving to second base to throw down. Hand to ear with simple arm action.

Defense: 2.65-2.85 pop times. Good wide base on initial move. At times lacks fluid movements in his hips and can pop up to move horizontally rather than staying low and moving with the baseball. Clean glove when receiving in immediate direction with quick transfer of the ball to glove to release.
Graham King, Baylor School (TN), 2026
Positional Profile: OF/RHP
Body: 6-0, 185-pounds. Really well build frame with strong upper half that goes alongside a well built fondation in his lower half. Maintains athleticism and could even look to fill out more mass as he ages.
Hit: RHH. Slightly loaded back leg with front foot heel elevated. Shifts his hips back fluidly before launch. Stays connected together through the zone with some lag of the bat for a long barrel at contact. Level plane bat path with an up the middle approach. Power: 85 max exit velocity, averaged 69.3 mph. 268' max distance.
Arm: RH. OF-80 mph. Easy arm action that shows connection while showcasing present arm speed and clean action. Could maybe get tighter with the shoulder tilt on his finish for more of a stacked body to help with velocity.
Defense: Moves well to both arm side and glove side. Lacks some athleticism when coming into the baseball as he slows down his body and momentum significantly. Could look to stay more fluid on his hip decent without sacrificing energy. Can gather with two hands at times as he lacks some trust in his body/glove to receive. Quick transfer once he has the baseball but may take one too many shuffle steps.
ATH: 7.58 runner in the 60. 1.77 and 4.18 in the 10 and 30 yard splits.

Power: 90 max exit velocity, averaged 82.6 mph. 312' max distance.
Arm: LH. OF-83 mph. Really clean arm action that works effortlessly with his rotation. Stays connected with the elbow and gets quick into slot. Can have some backwards tilt with the shoulders but evens out at release.

ATH: 6.98 runner in the 60. 1.65 and 3.82 in the 10 and 30 yard splits.
Moxon Montieth, Silverdale Baptist (TN), 2027
Positional Profile: SS/2B

Hit: RHH. Slightly open stance with internally rotated hips for a closed toe starting point. Creates linear direction towards home with a black leg load. Can get disconnected at times and become arm swing dominate versus using entire lower half. Uppercut bat path with a long plane. Could look to be shorter to the zone, while staying long through it. 62.3 mph bat speed with 6 G’s of rotational acceleration.
Power: 81 max exit velocity, averaged 67.0 mph. 233' max distance.
Arm: RH. INF-75 mph. Arm can get long and take time to get going. Needs shuffle steps to get arm synced up. High 3/4 to over the top arm action and could look to get quicker with an hand to ear arm pattern.
Defense: Moves well in the infield but can have choppy feet in the recieving portion. Lacks some bend with the lower half to sit behind a baseball and mostly relies on his glove instead of using his body with it. Leaves open room for the baseball to work through him if glove misses. Can work to both his glove side and forehand but lacks some fluidity to it.
ATH: 8.22 runner in the 60. 1.83 and 4.44 in the 10 and 30 yard splits.
Oliver Shave, Ravenwood (TN), 2025

Gains ground with a slight foot lift to plant. Fires from the back hip that creates torque through the zone. Level bat path that patches pitch plane. Looks to use the middle of the field with ability to pull inside pitches. 60.8 mph bat speed with 10 G’s of rotational acceleration.
Power: 86 max exit velocity, averaged 75.3 mph. 250' max distance.
Arm: RH. C-70 mph. Quick arm that has clean transitions from glove to hand. Starts tight but can get long away from his body and wrappy, which equates to him losing velo and accuracy.
Defense: 2.06-2.31 pop times. Moves really well behind the dish from a low crouched position. Works underneath and through the baseball with quick feet that stay tight. Has some present arm strength but can cut himself off at times. Good blocker with ability to recover.

Understands of working the hips into his swing. Could look to gain further hand seperation from body and incorporate his lower half for more of a ground up effect, which will aid him in more bat speed and better contact. Slight even uppercut with cutting off the finish of his swing. Will look to hit backside through the 4 hole. 46.7 mph bat speed with 14 G’s of rotational acceleration.
Power: 69 max exit velocity, averaged 60.3 mph. 197' max distance.
Arm: RH. INF-63 mph. OF-63 mph. Quick arm from a shorter lever sling of the throw.
