Quebec Scout Blog: CPBL Showcase Weekend (May 12)
May 14, 2023
ABC Academy headed West this past weekend to take part in the CPBL's Showcase Weekend as live-game action is finally underway here in Ontario. All organizations in the league were in attendance in Dorchester which allowed our staff to get a look at hundreds of players but also gave our staff another chance to get eyes on players from Quebec's premiere organization, ABC Academy.
The team was without a trio of Team Canada Junior National Team member's but had several other players step up and contribute in their two games on Friday against the Toronto Mets and Great Lakes Canadians.
Below, we break down five standouts from ABC on Friday with scouting notes and video.
QUEBEC SCOUT BLOG: CPBL SHOWCASE WEEKEND (MAY 12)
Maxime Boies SS / 2B / ecole secondaire pointe-levy, QC / 20252025 INF Maxime Boies was another bat towards the top of the ABC lineup that seemed to consistently chip in offensively on Friday. Some physicality from the left-side at 6-foot, 173-pounds and there’s projectable power in there as he continues to add strength. The hands are quick and short to the ball and while it’s not blazing speed, Boies still does a good job navigating the basepaths. Boies does a lot of things well on the field with a well-rounded game and will be on the scene for several more years.

Remi Lemay OF / 3B / Chene-Bleu, QC / 20242024 OF Remi Lemay (uncommitted) continues to be one of the more productive bats every time we get a look at him in-game. Our second extended look at Lemay following the Langley Blaze Pro Tour and the bat speed and hit tool from the left-side continue to stand out against higher-level arms. Compact build at 5-foot-11, 185-pounds with average speed and movements in his game. While he hasn’t shown a ton of juice yet this year, he’s consistently made hard contact and has been putting the ball in play with an aggressive approach at the plate. Has proven to be one of the better 2024 hitters in Quebec and is one of the top uncommitted positional players in the province.

Anthony Clavet 3B / OF / Cardinal-Roy, QC / 20242024 3B/OF Anthony Clavet (uncommitted) has a big presence in the right-side of the box at 6-foot-2, 192-pounds. Physical swing with some juice in the bat and a level swing that allows him to work from line-to-line and hit to all fields. The bat showed well throughout the fall at several national events including PBR Canada’s ProCase and the Canada Summer Games. A true 2024 in Quebec who continues to make noise each time we get eyes on him.

Tommy Caya C / 3B / Ecole secondaire Mont-Bleu, QC / 2023Quebec seems to continue churning out quality catchers and 2023 C Tommy Caya (uncommitted) is another one who really jumped out this past weekend in Dorchester. Somewhat undersized behind the dish right now at 5-foot-10, 165-pounds but immediately stood out with his athleticism back there. Quiet and receives the ball well. The left-handed hitter was one of ABC’s more productive bats throughout the day and there’s some sneaky power in there with the ability to find the gaps with relative ease and even left the yard with a homerun to the pullside.

Joel Gregoire RHP / Saint-Gabriel, QC / 20242024 RHP Joël Grégoire (uncommitted) was one of the better arms that ABC rolled out on Friday and there’s projection on the mound at 5-foot-10, 152-pounds. Against a deep Great Lakes lineup, Grégoire was able to navigate his way through the lineup with a good three-pitch mix and plenty of strikes. The fastball sat 84-86mph, along with a curveball that has depth and a vertical look at 69-71mph. There’s also feel for a changeup at 73-75mph that really drops off the table and generates swings/misses. Strike-thrower with three pitches and looks to be more coming. Another uncommitted 2024 arm in Quebec that should draw interest from college coaches.
