2020 Super 60 Canadian Review
PBR Canada has been sending players to the Super 60 for five years but never had we sent more than two to the prestigious showcase for the best draft prospects in each region. 2020 marked the first Super 60 with more than two Canadians and we actually doubled that number. Bryce Arnold and Owen Caissie, both of the Fieldhouse Pirates, represented Ontario while Raphael Pelletier did so for Quebec and Simon Lusignan out of the Okotoks Dawgs for Alberta.
All four showed their tools off alongside some of the top high school prospects in the U.S. as well as 100+ pro scouts and it was the perfect way to begin the indoor showcase season for us here in Ontario.

Summary: The 18th annual Super 60 featured 44 total positional prospects, 14 of which participated as outfielders for the showcase. 21 prospects ran better than 6.90 60-yard dashes, 10 infielders 90+ mph, 10 outfielders 90+ mph, 7 catchers 80+ mph, 8 catchers sub 2.00 pop time and 7 positional prospects registered 100+ mph.

Owen Caissie OF / Notre Dame, ON / 2020Super 60 Report: Caissie made his presence felt off the hop in Chicago, running a 6.71 which was good enough for 9th at the event. 6-foot-4, 190-pounds and looked to have added some strength over the winter. Was loose at the plate, working middle to pull side, and didn’t have as much loft in his swing compared to the summer. Had a loud second round of BP and produced the top exit velocity at the event, 105 mph. His work in the outfield may have been his strongest area of the day, where he was up to 92 mph and looked the part as usual. Canada’s top prospect in the class of 2020 looks primed and ready to go here early in 2020. |

Raphael Pelletier C / SS / Ontario Virtual, QC / 2020Rankings OverallRank: 413 / POS: 39
Super 60 Report: An athletic, 5-foot-11, 165-pound catcher out of ABC Academie, had a good all around day. Line drive approach from the left-side with a long stride at the plate and was working mostly up the middle with an exit velocity of 91. Behind the dish he was sound with quick transfers and pop times right around 2.00. He was quiet and received the ball well, an area he’s always been able to stand out. Some added strength will be important going forward in 2020 as Pelletier looks to re-enter the draft and the Super 60 seemed to be a good start. |

Super 60 Report: The 5-foot-9, 165-pound Fieldhouse Pirates shortstop has a well-rounded game that typically shows well at showcase events and this was the case again. Moved well on the day, running a 6.91 and looked to have added muscle since T12. A lot of barrels from the right-side in his first round of BP, with hard line drives to the pull side and was in a nice rhythm throughout the round with an exit velocity of 95. Arm strength was really on display where he was up 92 mph and had carry on throws from multiple arm slots. Moved well side to side with quick feet and we’ll get another look at the 2020 shortstop in Sanford, Florida for PBR Spring Training. |

Summary: The 18th annual Super 60 featured 29 arms, 23 of which were righties, while six threw from the left side. 25 arms touched 90+ mph with righty Trey Frahm (No. 1 ranked prospect out of Nebraska) sitting in the low-to-mid 90s, touching 96 mph while southpaw Magdiel Cotto (No. 9 ranked prospect out of South Carolina) was the top lefty velo wise, sitting 93-94 mph, topping out at 95.

Simon Lusignan RHP / Foothills Composite, AB / 2021Super 60 Report: Lusignan, a 6-foot-5, 200-pound right-hander of the Okotoks Dawgs, was the only 2021 at the Super 60. Tall and lean with current strength and room to add more ahead of his draft year, Lusignan has athleticism on the mound and body control. Fastball sat comfortably at 88-90 mph with run and was able to crank it up to 93 mph. With the arm speed, size and ability to add strength, there should be an uptick in velocity over the next two years. Slider with shape topped out at 83 while the splitter sat 86-87. The effectiveness of his secondary offerings will be something to watch from the junior Stetson commit. |
