West Virginia to Have Team in Inaugural PA State Games
March 2, 2020
PBR West Virginia Director of Scouting Josh Kuykendall announced today plans for taking a group of 22-24 players of the state's top uncommitted talent to the inaugural Pennsylvania State Games, being held June 15-17 in Dubois, PA at the beautiful Showers Field & Stern Family Field complex. Being one of the most talent rich states in amateur baseball, this event will feature Pennsylvania’s top uncommitted talent, and is expected to potentially draw over 100 college coaches.
Kuykendall couldn't be more excited about this event. “This is going to be an unbelievable opportunity for our kids in the Mountain State. Since I took over in September 2018, I have made it my focus to bring quality events to kids in our state. I truly believe in the talent we have in the state, and this will provide an opportunity for players to see where they stack up against some of the nation's top talent”
Under Pennsylvania’s format, they will pick players to represent their state in Cartersville, GA at the Future Games in late July - early August directly from this event. The Pennsylvania State Games will offer a pro style workout, along with (3) nine inning simulated games for each participant.
"One of our (West Virginia's) biggest disadvantages is not having the ability to take a team to the Futures Games. Not only will players have the opportunity to play in front of 100+ college programs at this event, but players in the 2022 & 2023 classes will have an opportunity to make their case to be chosen for the Future Games, either through Pennsylvania or by the Select team. It’s really an opportunity unlike anything we have seen for our players”
Currrent President of both PBR Pennsylvania & PBR New York - Dan Cevette had this to say about the event: "The PA State Games will be one of the most talked about events of the summer in Pennsylvania. We felt compelled to offer that same opportunity to 20 of the top uncommitted West Virginia prospects, putting them on the biggest stage of the early summer in our region. This event will be epic!"
Kuykendall echos much of the same as Cevette: "One of the most asked questions I get from parents from around the state is "How can we get my son to the Future Games? It's really hard because all of the surrounding states have a ton of talent of their own, and alot of times don't have room for additional players. This will give players the opportunity to prove that they belong in that setting. I couldn't be more excited for our guys"
This event will be open to players in the 2021, 2022, and 2023 graduating classes. More details will be released within the coming weeks. Be sure to follow @wv_pbr & @PBRWestVirginia on Twitter for the most up to date happenings from around the state.
